  • interesting neocon quiz from the csm

the christian science monitor put up an interesting quiz which tries to peg down your political beliefs.
    (isolationist, liberal, realist, neoconservative)

    i'm as i suspected: a realist.

    Realist

    Realists…

Are guided more by practical considerations than ideological vision
Believe US power is crucial to successful diplomacy - and vice versa
Don't want US policy options unduly limited by world opinion or ethical considerations
Believe strong alliances are important to US interests
Weigh the political costs of foreign action
Believe foreign intervention must be dictated by compelling national interest

Historical realist: President Dwight D. Eisenhower
Modern realist: Secretary of State Colin Powell

    I was a liberal.
"Spirit merges with matter to sanctify the universe. Matter transcends to return to spirit. The interchangeability of matter and spirit means the starlit magic of the outermost life of our universe becomes the soul-light magic of the innermost life of our self." - Dennis Kucinich, candidate for the U. S. presidency
"That’s the future of the Democratic Party: providing Republicans with a number of cute (but not that bright) comfort women." - Adam Yoshida, Canada's gift to the world

Yeah, according to them I´m a realist too, although I wouldn´t see me as 100% realist. But it is more for US guys, nothing for us idealistic Eurocoms.

They called me a liberal. I don't consider myself a liberal at all, so I thought the test was broken, but then I looked at their definitions:

            Liberals…

Are wary of American arrogance and hypocrisy

I agree that we do have some, and it gets out of hand sometimes, but I don't make a huge fuss about it.

Trace much of today's anti-American hatred to previous US foreign policies.

Of course. There is no other reason for them to hate us.

Believe political solutions are inherently superior to military solutions

Well, duh. Of course they are. War is hell, even if it is necessary sometimes.

Believe the US is morally bound to intervene in humanitarian crises

Sure we should intervene, but only of the costs are fairly low and we can actually help instead of enfore a temporary, unwanted ceasefire that only lasts while we have troops there.

            Oppose American imperialism

Any imperialism stinks, and I would oppose American imperialism if I believed we had any.

Support international law, alliances, and agreements

How else will we get a civilized planet?

Encourage US participation in the UN

That's the only one I really disagree with. The UN stinks.

Believe US economic policies must help lift up the world's poor

We should at least refrain from actively harming them, as with farm subsidies.

            Historical liberal: President Woodrow Wilson

            Modern liberal: President Jimmy Carter

Great. I get compared to the idealistic fools who failed to do anything useful. Oh well.

As I suspected... although, there were many questions in which I agreed with 2 answers. I took the test again and got a realist result.

I'm probably somewhere in between the two.

Strange I agree with most of the liberal, anda few of the realist definitions, I answered mostly according to those, and I came out as an Isolationist I do agree with the US keeping somewhat out of other nations business, but I don't agree with trade tariffs or quotas, I don't agree that they should cease international trading, I don't agree that they shoul ignore the UN orthe opinion of other nations, and I choose answers that fit this. Oh well.

I am part liberal, part realist and a small part isolationist, but this test puts me up with Pat Buchanan

Probably mostly liberal with a dash of realist.
