Girls get extra school help while boys get Ritalin
Here, they cry (I don't talk about women in general, but these damn cave women) that it's so wrong that men hold more high positions than women, it should be 50/50 or more women than men.
This is the problem - they don't raise the same outcry when the balance is in favor of women.
skywalker, sure but I don't see why they would do that .
But you see, we don't organize ourselves here (men) to fight this. We don't need to do that either, so I'm not saying we should. Sure we make jokes about woman being in control and some are jerks about it, but hey women always calls men stupid etc. But they are also organized as racist groups, wanting to dominate everything and make it a rule.
I'd say forget about that, the best person for the job. If it's a woman, then it's ok, it doesn't matter if she is the best! That's the way it is, should be and I hope will be.
Here, men and women are changing roles anyway.
It's ok, everyone does what they want it's their business not mine, but if there are going to be rules that these cave women want, that makes my life harder because they failed in their own lifes at some point and started wearing lose shirts with no bras and smell bad.. then it's my business.
So what's the point then? When that happens and I make it my business, that makes me racist chauvinist pig who prolly hits women as well and treats the as sex objects, and it's not acceptable. But when they do it, it's ok.
In da butt.

If that is so, why do girls still work harder in college, where there are more male professors?
Becuase being a professor and a teacher differ (perhaps why more males are professors) in the type of relation with their student. Plus, by that time, you have developed your habits when it comes to education.

GePap, the problem with same-sex schools is that first, maybe it is a bad idea for guys to only have male teachers. I believe it is better for them to have male teachers then female teachers, but it is good to have both. Also, they will have very poor social skills with the opposite sex.
You are in school for 6-8 hours a day 5 days a week. You have the rest of your life to develop those skills, which are NOT the point of school anyway. Add to that that during the shool day you have breaks and gym periods to develop such skills. Math class, writing class, english class are NOT there to teach you how to date. Second, same sex classes does not mean the teacher must be the same sex as the class, but it does mean the teacher must understand te different ways in which boys and girls learn.

The differences in learning style that REALLY cause problems seem to be of such a kind as to vary from individual to individual rather than by gender. ADD for example(real ADD, not just the much-publicized cases of kids who act up in class and get shut up with a pill), or dyslexia, or learning styles that aren't disorders but are heavily skewed in favor of one sense. Visual learning, for example. If you have no memory for spoken words, lecture classes are a cosmic pain in the arse.
In any case, the best answer to different learning styles isn't to segregate but to-what's the phrase?-use "total immersion," or whatever they call it when you strive to have lessons engage as many of the five senses as possible, presented in as many ways as possible. This not only makes it easier for all students to learn, it makes for a much more interesting class for all by not limiting teaching to sitting at the front of the classroom writing on an overhead projector. I don't know about you, but after a few minutes of that I start to zone out even now, and I'm twenty and on a decently strong dose of concerta. The classes where you actually learn, now, those are the ones with discussions, demonstrations, hands-on practice, sensible use of media like videos or music, and whatever other wacky way you can come up with to get your point across. Of course you can't do that with the crap budget most states have now; the only kids who get a real quality edumacatation are the ones in talented youth programs, who get all the county's resources while the more prosaic children are left to sink or swim on their own strength or what their parents can give them. I was one of those talented youth types and in all likelihood my kids will be too, so I don't especially care, but that's how it seems to me.
I too think the lack of male teachers influences male students in how much effort they put in.
Not really. I think the expectations play a big part. Why try to excel academically, if your parents, and teachers, don't expect that of you? One of my best teacher, I think all of my best teachers had high expectations, not just of me, but of all of their students. And she was female.
Again, students get into patterns, but I think there is another reason for why women work harder in university than the men. Men tend to see authority not in what society says, but in how people perform. If you have the skills, you will do fine without the degree, whereas the women see the degree as comfirming authority.

Parents, same sex schools are a great way for your child to excel in his academic environment with less of the pressures associated with social duties. Be sure to send your child to a same sex school if you want him to become a homosexual.

Better lots of well educated homosexuals than uneducated heteros.

Yeah, like I never went to those.... I was born into college.
you can socialize during the breaks (like lunch), in afterschool activities, at school functions. The classroom isn't someplace you should be socializing.
A lot of schools throughout history have been segregated by sex: the human race reproduced without problem.
If a form of separation has ntohign to do with educational sucess, it has no place to be (liek separation by race), but if some form of separation can imporve the academic achievement of students, then it has every right to be (we already separate the "gifted" from others).

Well, in separating the "gifted," the schools are really just setting aside a small group who they actually put energy into educating, like I said; in my part of Maryland, at least, the comprehensive students' education is a bad joke, the failures of yesterday teaching the future failures of tommorow. The advent of Dubya's No Child Left Behind law has basically ensured that all children will be equally ignorant. Oh well. Someone has to run the gas stations, right?

I'm not saying it is a place for socialization. However, school is where you will develop your social skills. It is inevitable.
Yes, inevitably even in a school were the classes are segregated by sex, as long as the school is not, people will learn how to socialize with others and the opposite sex.
