Oh yeh. This is what I'm talkin' 'bout.

They took out a full page ad in Iran for this?

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Since I'm REALLY bored (Though not bored enough to correct typos or anything):

Few statesmen can be compared to Kim Jon Il, the supreme leader of the DPRK.
He has led the workers party of korea for nearly forty years. This extraodrinary man has never made a mistake in his long political career (Tass - ). He has been consitently sucessful and has never knownn failure.
He has so far led the Korean epople along the socialist path to victory, performing great exploits and meanwhile gainin enormous experience. In seven years, despite unprecendented difficulties, he has succeeded in building an invincible army and a power nation. In doing this he has emphasized the importance of ideology, the defense force and science and technology.
The level of a leaders political philosophy mirrors his status. Lack of a clear philosophy means lack of a clear political perspective. Kim Il Sung first founded the Juche idea which holds special position in the history of human thought (Tass - Human thought in North Korea? Isn't that counterrevolutionary?) and Kim Jong Il has developed and perfected the idea to fit the situation today. His (unreadable) "On the Juche Idea" as well as his latest works including "Socialism is a Science", "Abuses of Socialism are Intolerable", and "Giving Priority to Ideological Work is Essential for Acoompllishing the Cause of Socialism" (tass - ), expound his position. He shows that if the ideology stops being socialistic, the working-class party; the state and hte political system follow suit (Tass - You mean they stop being socialist?). He also demonstrates that the converse is true: If the people and state hold fast to socialist ideology, socialism will flourish. He maintains that the scientific nature of siclaism ensures success. his arguements have convinced people from all over the world. Progressive parties and peoples everywhere believe his works demonstrate the most perfect theories of socialism which illuminate human progress. (Tass - Next week in the People's Daily....).
The army-first politics which Kim Jong Il has been the first in history to enforce ensure an independant, benevolent, and unified state. The army first theory can be called Jim Jong Ils political doctrine since he was the first to develop the idea (Tass - Really?). The theory is rfiles are powerful, therefore a party, a state, and a people based of rifles will be powerful too. (Tass - Has Mr. Heston paid a visit to Kimmy here recently?) A power state will be successful and consequently prosperous.
Formerly, socialist leaders put the working class first and held that it engendered and led the revolution. Now it can be seen that giving the army precedence over the working class ensures that the entire populace emulate the revolutionary spirit of the army, unifies thought and methods of working and accelerates the socialist cause. (Tass - These counterrevolutionary capitalist pigdogs. Its called the democratic PEOPLES republic of korea. He obviously needs reeducation. Or she. Whatever)
A party collapses unless it controls and is protected by the army. The army first policy proved its worth in 1990 when the impieralist allies did their best to stifle socialism and the DPRK (,) convincing the world of their early collapse. They did not succeed. North

Korea did not collapse. She performed miracles and overcame incredible hardships. If Kim Jong Il (Tass - I'm gonna refer to him as Kim and refer to his father as Kimil.) had not enforced the army first policy the DPRK could never have done it, nor started to make the country great, strong, and prosperous. No wondert then, that people worldwide call the policy an "all purpose sword", "sucessful politics" and "the exemplar of socialism".
Kim is an outsanding statesmen. He steers a course through world affairs with exemptional politicsl ability. He is an acute politician, an expert in the economy (Tass - ), has an unusual grasp of military affairs and is a perfect diplomat. In 1994 President Clinton, the former president of the USA, sent Kim a letter of gguarentee promising to impliment the DPRK-US Agreed Framework and even before he held the top position of the DPRK, called him the "supreme leader". Kim invited Kim Dae Jung to Pyongyang where they adopted the June Fifteenth North-South Join Declaration. This was the first time a south Korea president had visited the north since the division of Korea fiftyfive years before. This was al andmark declaration which ahs brough about dramatic change in the situation of the Korean peninsula. Leader Kim has held talks with heads of states in other countries as well as the US Secretary of State and has sometimes changed the balance of power. (Tass - Only sometimes?! Pigdog!).
Nowdays the great powers compete to make overtures of friendship to the DPRK (Tass - ). Western countries which used to antagonize the DPRK and slavishly follow the US line now rush to establish diplomatic relations with her. All this would be unthinkable without Kim jong Ils consumate political skills. He leads the world politics by crafly using DPRK-US relations as a trump card.
Today all the world esteems him as a fascinating man, literary, skilled in the military arts and the ideal political leader. He is truely a great statesman.

TASTES OF A GREAT MAN (Tass - )
Supreme Leader Kim of the DPRK visited Russia in the summer of 2001, his first official foreign visit. Prior to this, the Itar-Tass News Agency interviewed him and asked him how he spends his spare time and what he is interested in.
He replied that he was most fond of mixing with the Korean people and the soldiers of Koreas Peoples Army to keep them companu. He added that he also liked reading and music and regarded them as a source of inspiration for his work and part of his life. He continued "I learn how pthe people and the soldiers live and work, and talking with them and sharing the sweets and bitters of life with them. I consider this my greatest pleasure." (Tass - He says as his order of fine Russian bread arrives at his palace in Pyongyang.)
True to his political ideology, Kim regards the people as his God (Tass - ), devotes himself to their welfare, and replies on them for his revolution just as President Kimil did all his life. His politics of benevolence are based on that ideology.
According to the Feb Eight 2002 issue of "Rodoong Sunmun", a major newspaper of the DPRK (Read - State), during the period from his childhood to his graducation from Kimil University, Kim convered a total of 64719 KM over 1567 days to visit 2870 units around the country, (TASS - And proudly declared that 70 percent of all statistics are made up on the spot!) experiencing the reality of the country and aiding the President in his work. Almost forty years have passed since he began his political career. At present, he functions as the Chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission (The top position in the DPRK). During that period he traveled 358588 KM for 4214 days visiting 8456 units to give firsthand guidance. Among the many places to benefit from his field guidance were a cooperative farm which nestled among the mountains of the Northernmost Part of Korea, a forward unit of the KPA on the Military Demarcation Line, the Kim Chaek Steel Xomplex, a mammoth metalurgical base by the East Sea of Korea, and a military post on a remote island in the west sea of korea.
While the Korean people were forced to make the Ardoons March" and the subsequent Forced March following the death of the President towards the end of the last century, Kim visited the people and KPA soldiers more frequently than ever. Over seven years up to the end of last year he gave onthespot guidance to 1300 units covering 1166697 KM in the process. Thats why the Korean people respect and follow Kim, adressing him as "respect General Kim" and "their dear fater".

If bull**** had any value in the global commodoties market, the DPRK would have the highest standard of living in the world. Great stuff.

These people have such an incredibly distorted view of the world and of history, it's amazing.

The (...) population is also conditioned to believe that their situation is better than that of the rest of the world, so they have to have any contrary experience carefully exorcised.

There's a great comic strip by Guy Delisle (French-speaking Canadian) merely called Pyongyang, that shows what his time working in the Pyongyang cartoon studios were like.
                            Things like
" What about handicapped persons? On the average 7 to 10% of total population... ?
                            - There aren't any... We are a very homogeneous nation and all North Koreans are string, intelligent and healthy from the birth.
                            ...
Judging by the tone of his voice, I think he really believed it."
                            are particularly amazing.

What scared me even more were the accounts of how the SOUTH Koreans went wild over the "Northern Beauties". According to the press report, South Koreans were utterly captivated by these amazing, bewitching women.

Makes me suspect that life in South Korea, despite its modernity, is a little on the slow side.

                                Not unlike China.

(...) the well-scripted women have become South Korea's unlikely sweethearts -- and a symbol of the South's recent embrace of its old enemy. (...) (T)he cheerleaders, gushing with expressions of love for their "dear leader," Kim Jong Il, were winning the admiration of millions here through poignant TV coverage and adoring newspaper headlines. Smitten South Koreans traveled hundreds of miles to offer roses and serenades to the "Beauties from the North," as one headline called them.

"They give me chills of excitement," said Park Seung Jin, a 27-year-old restaurateur who came to the games just to see the women. "We are one nation divided by foreign powers. These women help us to see Korea as one. . . . North Korea is no longer my enemy. It is not South Korea's enemy either."
