the numbering system is based on the number of miles from the start of the road.

those exits are usually less than a mile apart from each other.

atlanta's got a love of highways.

guess what? our metro area, already less than three co. away from tennesee, now actually includes one alabaman county. (and the collective iq of atlanta sinks further.)

I know the numbering system, but why is there a 249A, a 249C, two 249D's but no 249B??
      "INCONCEIVABLE!"

      Or, to mix movie references:
"The numbering of the exits shall be according to thy nearest higher mile marker. The lettering of thy count shall also be sequential from the lower mile marker unto the higher mile marker."

"Thou shalt start at A and proceed unto B. Thou shalt not go on unto C, except thou first usest B. Thou shalt not use D when thou hast already used D before."

If Atlanta loved highways they'd build another loop around the outside. Then maybe those pesky Alabamans and Tennesseeans would go around Atlanta and find somewhere else to inflict themselves. But since local understanding of the alphabet has already been contaminated it's too late.

Yeah... then maybe 285 wouldn't be the freaking mess it is

Frankly, I was just going by the map and suggesting what could be a reason for the streets to be numbered as shown on the map. Not having lived there in six years, I don't know if that is actually how the exit numbers are laid out - but personally, I don't trust computer maps and especially their directions.

Just look for the sign that says "North Ave" and follow that exit, remembering to stay to the East of the highway.

                Friday 5 pm!

JohnT, I don't trust printed maps excessively, much less mapquest. Wrong exit numbers are fairly common. But The Varsity's own directions for Northbound and Southbound seem to agree with the two exits both being 249D… or maybe they were trusting mapquest overmuch!

I've been rummaging thru my glovebox and the crate in my trunk to find my official GA map without success.

Having a LOT of experience with both computer and printed maps, I can say that printed maps are still far and away superior when it comes to street layout, names, and accuracy.

I think you are right - the person who put that (pretty bad, imho) site together also relied on Mapquest... but being down there in a week, I can check it out myself.

Oh, and if taking MARTA, the North Street station is N3, IIRC. I just took it today from Lindburgh (N6) to Five Points for an interview (where I was basically told I got the part time job... $12/hr... sweet ).
