If a real dmeocratic politician comes in, Ahnold is not the frontrunner. If Riordan gets in, he is a credible one, but given who is in the race, not so for Ahnaold. The core of the republicans, the geniuses who backed Simon, already have their choice in Issa.
GePap have you just not been following? Riordan says he's not going to run if Arnold does. And Issa said he wasn't running.

I was just happy to see Issa's *****-ass crying on TV earlier today. He foot the bill for the recall effort - his reward? A nice glass of shut the **** up!

So Issa spent millions to get Davis recalled and he decided not to run?...
As i said earlier, good for the dem.s that riordan isn;t running, cause he, unlike Ahnold, is a good candidate that has something more than past movie fame to back him up.

But their unity may not hold as another statewide Democratic officeholder, Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi, said he planned to enter the race.
Looks like Bustamante may not have such a clear road to victory.

MTG that's crazy! You think the RNC is just going to ignore the largest state in the Union? Especially after they screwed it up the first time?
It's on baby, it's on...
The RNC isn't stupid. They didn't screw it up last time. After Reagan, they view the governship as a steppingstone to the Presidency. So (a) Arnie is tits on a bull since he's ineligible, (b) they picked Simon, who couldn't win, over Riordan, who could have, because Riordan wasn't a social conservative. The RNC does not want to, and will not, promote a candidate for California governor who is left of the state and national party's social views.
It would also be the only statewide elected office in the state they hold, the Dems have a rock solid lock on both houses of the legislature, so the governorship here would be meaningless in the large picture.
These are the same people that let Boxer be a virtual shoe-in last time, and why she will be again. They don't want to spend the money here, unless it advances the national party's interests. And just like the energy fiasco, the state's current fiscal disaster under Democrat political dominance is a gravy train as a campaign issue in 2004 all across the country. Look at those tax and spend Democrats and the folly they've wrought.
The concern of the RNC with respect to California is one thing and one thing only right now: the re-election of George W. Bush in 2004.

Well, with over 50 names on that ballot likely, I will be hard for anyone to get something like 30-35% of the vote.

I dunno if I'd say that. After all more than 50 people run for President every 4 years .
The many people running from each party may dilute things, but I expect the winner will have 40% of the vote.

Interesting, from CNN.com:

Garamendi would divide the vote somewhat, but overall, Bustamante (who I don't particularly like) would eat his ass up. Garamendi's not that popular, and Insurance Commissioner is a pretty thankless and silly-assed job here.

At the very least my old state (NJ) had like 10-15 names, half of them being Socialist Parties .

There's already about 300, but only a handful are not comedy types.
Everyone's getting a little ahead of themselves. If Davis resigns, the recall itself isn't likely to pass. Bustamante's position (and this sounds like it's party line) is to vote against the recall and vote for him just in case, to keep control of the state house. If Davis has the ****ing sense to resign, a lot of the "don't rock the boat" vote will vote down the recall, and I seriously doubt it would pass.
