All presidents have spent too much time on 'vacation'... 1 month!!! Heck, most of us AMERICANs only get 2 weeks a year... Granted Bush still has to "work" some of the time, but give me a break, give him 10 days a year that he has to acrew... and maybe 1 or 2 personal days...

When you have to 'work' everyday of your vacation, by calling the office, asking what work has to get done, etc, then you can ***** .

So long as he works, then good. But it helps a government, still, that everyone be in one place.

(Wait...Bush works? When did this start? )

During August, Congress is in recess. Nobody does anything much in DC this time of year. And the country is better off for it.
        John Brown did nothing wrong.

Okay...what does bush staying in crawford really say about the man? That he would rather spend time on a ranch than in a luxurious mansion like the white house? To say that he is "on vacation" is asinine. Like others have stated, he probably has to work harder with keeping in touch when he is not sitting in the fancy schmancy oval office.
"Mal nommer les choses, c'est accroître le malheur du monde" - Camus (thanks Davout)

"I thought you must be dead ..." he said simply. "So did I for a while," said Ford, "and then I decided I was a lemon for a couple of weeks. A kept myself amused all that time jumping in and out of a gin and tonic."

Yeah, he has to work harder in Crawford. I'll remember that when I see a news clip of him riding horses or playing golf.

Sometimes I am totally flummoxed at the righteous anger that the political creature flings towards the mildest of "crimes." It reminds me of the Repubs complaining about how Clinton was giving Big Campaign Donors free sleepovers at the WH.

Yeah, Bush is such a bastard for wanting relief from his HIGH-PRESSURE responsibilities.

If he can't handle the job, he should quit.

Hmmmph, my brother-in-law has been over in the middle east for over 6 months now fighting a fight that Bush started, and it pains me as well as those troops to see your Commander in Cheif goes on a 1 month vacation because he so stressed... My brother-in-law chose to join the reserves and now he is paying for it. Bush chose to run for president, and THIS is how he is paying for it? With great responsibilty comes great responsibility!

                        DUH!!

Everyone who has a high-level, high-pressure job will need to seek some form of relief on ocassion. And it's not because they can't handle the job.

Some people here understand, though many don't: there can come a point in your career where the job comes to you, you don't go to it. If so, why not place yourself in the most comfortable environment that you can?

Bush's job is to make decisions and to talk to people, not to be anyplace... at least, not for a while, especially since Congress just recessed. Going to work is something for us schleps.

In short: the fact that he's in Crawford doesn't necessarily mean he's on vacation.

Why are you so concerned about the president... there are millions of hard-working Americans that have to work year-round and don't enjoy the perks Bush does. Why don't you fight for their "rights" to vacation rather than some rich kid who became president.

Yeah JohnT -- cell phones and lap tops make it easier for people like Bush to still find themselves doing some kind of work even while on vacation.

But can you explain to Sava that a person should be able to take a real vacation without being accused of not being able to handle the job?

Are people aware that Bush does live where he works? He doesn't exactly have to commute to the office.

Also, I have to echo Felch's comments. DC is quiet during the summer. Everyone in Congress is back in their districts doing the usual Political schtick. That, and it's so damned hot and sticky that nobody wants to do work...
If you look around and think everyone else is an *******, you're the *******.
