Med school is hard to get into. He didn't have the grades.

Well? He had the chance/opportunity to become a doctor, he just didn't realize what it was he needed to do;1) Get good undergrad grades 2)Apply to every Med school under the sun, 3) Get good grades in Med School

He missed step one; he got into school and didn't get good enough grades. Yet, you seem to think he was denied the opportunity to become a doctor just because he wasn't given the go ahead to do number 3... Yet he was, he got into an undergraduate program...

Again... if you continue to work your butt off in a job that gets you nowhere, it's time to make a choice.
It's time to get more education or training so that you can change to job that will get you somewhere.

Very good. Now will you go straighten out people, some the same, in Pekka's thread ?

What is there more to say, the libertarians beilive in the social sputum known as social darwinism. if the libertarians implemented thier ideas the rich would get richer and the poor get poorer because $$$ buys oppertunity, as in the school example. the libertarian model eventually leads to revolution as the poor slaughter the rich.

Sorry Japher, Libertarians just tick me off.

Choicing to do low value added jobs and not being displined at savings will often mean people end up with few financial assets. It's a choice some people make.

Privitized schools would be a disaster, the poor people would be stuck with crap teachers, the rich would get the good teachers. As I said, libertarians are ignorant MORONS.
I don't think you're being fair. Magnet schools and open enrollment districts have injected a small bit of competetion into the school business and it has resulted in some of the only positive movement in test scores we've seen in years. Giving people vouchers and making it a law that people can go to any school they want (again they'd have to compete for spots based on grades) would inject still more competetion and will likely improve scores even more. Why should people be stuck in failing schools? Why not let them choice to go to the best schools in their area?

Also having more standardized testing would be a great idea. That way we can see the results each different approach gets us. There are lots of wishy-washy ideas put out by (mostly leftest) educators which cost alot of money and provide kids with WORSE educations then before. With standardized tests we can see who's approach works and who's doesn't then we can weed out the losers.

They don't HAVE the oppertunity. My mom has a degree in small business but we are stuck living from paycheck to paycheck so we can't afford to start one up. we won't be able to take out a loan until we pay off our house. I don't want no patronizing by a person who got lucky with advertising.

                              Why is this?

we won't be able to take out a loan until we pay off our house
Why is that? You know you can take loans against the home equity currently acrewed on the house, and you normally don't have to wait until it is all paid off... It's called a home equaty line of credit.

Also, why would you put up you home as collateral for a business loan. Especially for a first time start-up buisness, that's pretty risky.

I am sure if that you all have a good idea it wouldn't be hard to find backers, also there are many no down buisness loans, starting at $50,000, that are out there. You just have to look...

Yet, I am sure your mom knows all this as she has a buisness degree... She couldn't be making up excuses because she is afraid could she?
