Poll numbers not too long ago, of rank and file voters, had about 90% of Reps favoring recall of Davis and 50+% of Dems also favoring recall of him. If Davis is out of the way, then the pit bulls can go after Issa and raise the specter of another Simon, while the appointed governor can play "let's take the high road and concentrate on fixing this mess" and since he's the appointed governor, make sure his name is on the ballot, too.
