This reasoning can be applied to any recreation activity, not just animals.

A world without recreation would be a very boring place indeed.

Well, my parents care about their dog more than they do me. Sometimes people just like pets better than humans.

        it would be, wouldn't it?

i don't think spending money on games is a waste.
        mother does.
i think her spending money on gardening tools is a waste.
        she doesn't.

we all get our jollies in different ways, but that still doesn't stop me from thinking pet hospitals are a waste.

I like my dogs better than most people.

regarding the pet psychic comment..I would LOOOVE to know what my babies are thinking sometimes...they are the strangest bunch. But I wouldnt pay for that. I just imagine to myself what goes through their minds,.

they probably think Im a weird ass human. and thats okay. cuz I am.

I think we can all agree pet psychics are a complete waste of money.

I still take exception to people say I'm wasting money by saving my dogs life. It's my money, I do what I want with it. A dog provide emotional support to me. Therefore there is a financial reason to save my dog- to ensure the continued emotional health of myself.

I agree. If you have a sick pet, put it out of it's misery.

it depends how sick it is.

Who's to say it can't still lead a normal healthy life?

True, but sometimes it's best to put the animal out of suffering than to try to replace a hip or something.

now what if we said that about humans?

animals do have feelings you know.

In fact, animal rights groups are now saying fish have feelings (despite the nirvana song saying they don't ).

what seperates another mammal from a human?

Don't you think its obscene the money some people spend on their pets? If your pet required complicated and expensive surgery wouldn't the more moral thing to do be to give it a needle and get another one? Isn't it cruel and wrong to keep a sick animal alive?

Give the money to a charity for humans or the environment of some worthwhile cause. Don't spend it on your pets.

When my pets have got really sick, and I've loved having them and looking after them, I've always had them put down. Am I a heartless utilitarian?
With your extended definition of obscene and your limited definition of worthwhile, you could put down half of the US economy. :

I think if you have to hospitalise a pet, nature is telling you something.

                            By the way.
AH, I think you spend an obscene amount of time on the off-topic forum.
You should spend that time on charity.

Here, here!!! My Golden Retriever is my BEST friend! Nothing like unconditional love! Always glad to see me come home. There've been some rough spots in my life in recent years, and honestly, I don't know what I'd have done without her.

Ishtar, I had a golden retviever too. They are cool

I spent my savings on her when she was sick last summer. I used my food money too, because it was really expensive to do few tests and all. But she was my buddy for many many years. Something about dogs that I like better than humans. They are loyal to the last breath, literally. We tried most stuff, but it didn't work and they said she was terminally ill badly, and suffering. Surgery could have been done, but it was very expensive and with bad odds. But if I had the money, I would have spent it without thinking twice about it.
So it was best to just terminate her. It sucked for sure, but I didn't think about the money, and I'd still do the same. I'd do that to my human friends as well and they'd come first, but they were ok and my doggie was worse, so I don't see any problems with it.

Personally, I'll get a new dog when I can afford it and have a better place for it. But if something comes up, I don't just shoot it or anything like that. If that would be the case, then what's the point of getting one anyway, they're not toys.
