If I remember what I read in a school history book right Israel was backed by the US during that war.

Weren't you the one that said that Israel has deliberately sunk the USS Liberty, as an american ship?
I believe that I said that it was either on purpose or that they were depressingly incompetent considering the attack lasted 2 1/2 hours.

It's amazing we beat the Iraqis, since we have such dumb people in our military (4 Canadians killed by US bombing in Afganistan, multiple incidents of US "friendly fire" in the 1st Gulf War, etc.), then, huh?

Did we attack the Canadians for 2 1/2 hours?

No we didn't, and in fact the length of the attack on the Liberty is what made it highly questionable for me (as I recall, I found the whole thing fishy when we discussed this however many months ago).
But there were other factors involved in the bombing of the Canadians that indicated shocking stupidity/negligence on the part of the US Air National Guard. And then there was the whole "yeah, let's give the pilots speed!" thing.
