Electrical Engineer working as an Engineering Tech. After the Telecom bubble popped, and the local manufacturing jobs dried up, I'm one of the "lucky ones" to land a job in a local Space and Defense company, but to echo the good Provost H., why "I don't get paid nearly enough for what I do".

I am an Area Manager over 6 counties in southeastern North Carolina in the Ready Mix Concrete Industry.
My areas I hold charge over are:
Sales
Operations
Quality Assurance
Maintainence
Collections as well as new account setup
Environmental & Safety compliance
I have 40 + people whom report to me. I also market concrete pump sales for one of our sister organizations.
I came through the ranks and have held this current position for 8 years.
I previously held a position as a Plant Manager for 3 years.
Prior to that I ran a One truck operation where I batched and delivered the load (1.5 years)
Prior to that 6 years as a driver. Also did some yardman work
I feel I am well compensated, as with most would enjoy more, but overall, am satisfied. I work for a demanding corporate team, but then again, they have the right to demand. I enjoy my work, most of times!
Schooling?
I was in first graduating class for the NRMCA Sales Certification, a 76 hour college level course.
NCDOT Mix Design Technician Level II
NCDOT Batch Technician Level I
ACI Level 1 Field Grade Technician
ACI Flatwork Technician Level One
Time on job?
PRICELESS!!!!
Peace

I'm trained in Radar calibration and repair, electronics repair, Fire Control computer repair, 20mm Gatling gun repair, Microsoft Certified Professional, Beadblasting, Locksmith, plumbing, electrician, HVAC repair, Boiler and Chiller operation and repair, supply ordering, and working a cash register.
That being said, I work as a building technician in a hospital, making repairs on everything from hospital beds to plugged drains.
Damn, sounds like I'm typing a resume.

I'm trained in software engineering, and hopefully soon I will land a job in IT. The market for IT professionals here sucks at the moment though.
As a software engineer, would you design programs or would you make a game or application?
I am just trying to figure out what some of these positions are is all.
We have an IT fella, he works in the National Gaurd now that he is done with active duty. He seems pretty knowlegeable and takes care of many issues, truck tracking for our fleet as well as tracking and assigning costs for our maint. program.
Good luck by the way on your IT hopes!
Peace
