Thurmond repudiated his racist past. You'll note his record also includes voting to renew the Voting Rights Act in 1982.
While I don't like his conservative politics, I separate that from the man, whom I believe in the end of his life acted with honor and dignity and fulfilled his duties to his constituents ably (Until of course he was rendered more or less a living puppet).

oh please Boris... in the book, one of his closest aides reported in 2000 that "Strom hasn't changed one bit." He just took his racism and buried it. The man was a smart politician. The only thing he should be praised for is his service in WW2. But since you obviously love Strom, for some strange reason, I'm not going to post anything else to the contrary.
