  • Israel: This is just the beginning of a Hamas man-hunt.

Israeli news agencies are saying that according to their military contacts, this is just a beginning of a wide-spread operation against Hamas in Gaza. Israeli military actions have so for spared most of the Hamas leadership and Gaza, and was dedicated to destroying suspected bomb manufacturing facilities at night, and leaving at dawn.

Hamas promises revenge and says that Sharon is a target now.

A senior Hamas member giving an interview to Al-Jazeera was asked about the possibility Israel would annihilite Hamas top eschelons as of now. The member replied that 'the occupier' have already used their entire arsenal against the intifada, and therefore the Hamas and the brave Palestinian people are not frightened by Israeli threats.

A minute later the live interview was cut short by the arab equivalent of: "Oh ****, I hear helicopters. Go away".

In the week since the Aqaba summit, terrorist activities directed at Israeli citizens, and soldiers have cost 7 Israeli lives (several soldiers, and a young couple, who were murdered while apparently "flirting" in the nature)

Israeli security services have stopped no less than 10 suicide bombers on their way to, or about to leave for Israeli cities.

According to military sources, a high eschelon Hamas meeting dealing with the proposed "cease-fire" with Israel ended with the decision to continue attacks, and intelligence pointed to Rantisi as the primary (almost sole) force resisting to declare a temporary cease fire. Following that, Israel decided to target Rantisi, and failed to kill him, instead apparently killing several bystanders and Rantisi's Hamas bodyguards.

Siro, I don't know if you intended the double sense of you thread title, but according to the news I got, it hits the nail. Would be funny if it wasn't so sad.
Why doing it the easy way if it is possible to do it complicated?

Adalbertus: If you thought that the Hamas was not in the midst of a man-hunt on Israeli innocent civilians, I refer you to the 10 suicide attempts since Aqaba. 10 Attempts in 7 days.

I'm quite aware of the fact that Hamas is Sharon's most reliable ally in destroying hopes for peace.

              How about real arguments?

So, why is Sharon interested in destroying the peace process?

Roughly half an hour ago the head of the Islamic Jihad in Jenin was killed after trying to escape arrest.

Edit : Another IJ guy was killed and 5 arrested in the same incident.

The conflict is his personal political future. He gets elected because he says he works against the palestinian threat. Without the threat, he loses his argument. Therefore, he always has to appear doing something against it, but at the same time he does what he can to incite it (of course in a subtle way that most westerners are too stupid to recognise it. Sending porns on palestinian TV, for example. It's not a joke but an offense to most muslims). And this is exactly where he needs the Hamas: When international protests get too strong, he can go to negotiations, knowing that Hamas will bomb a few days later. Then, life will be made hard for *all* Palestinians, regardless of what they do. That's the best way to recruit for Hamas.
Don't get fooled, this is the same sad game which goes on for all the presidentship of Sharon.

hes an old guy - he doesnt have much political future one way or the other.

Hes gone farther in making acknowleding Pals right to a state than any Likud leader has ever done - all evidence is that he does want peace - but on his terms.

He is almost 75 years old and he already announced that he wont run in the next elections.
