                  • Woo... gay marriage.

I have been engaged for 8 months to my fiancee, and we are planning to go to Vermont (the only US state that allows "civil unions") in the fall to finalize the deal.

But, since the USA passed the "DEFENSE OF MARRIAGE ACT" in 1996, gay unions of any sort are outlawed in each state, unless a state allows them to be legitimate.

So if I get married in Vermont, it is illegal in Michigan, my home resident state, or Illinois, where the two of us currently live.

Of course, if my sister married her boyfriend in Vermont, it would be a legal contract in _any_ state.

And they say Federalism is the best form of government.

Recently, my home county passed legislation giving same-sex couples work benefits, such as sharing medical plans and the like. Conservative lobbies argued that it was unfair to heterosexuals, since "unmarried heterosexuals" did not receive the benefits that "unmarried homosexuals" do.

All of this is a sickening, Catch-22 approach to politics, and -- unfortunately -- the same illogical arguments are being used overseas (and across the border in Canada). Feh. The poor heterosexuals; oh the humanity!

Ah well. One day I will have my own family; Jason and I want to adopt children. We still hope that one day we could have made a baby of our own; recent cloning reasearch has theorized that male eggs or female sperm can be made by extracting the DNA from an egg and placing the DNA of a sperm into it, and vice versa, allowing for children that are the biological product of two men or two women.

Again, with American conservatism on the rise, "cloning reasearch" (since common propaganda is deceptive into thinking any cloning research means making full human clones) is getting the sqeeze, along with most other civil liberties.

To what degree of buffoonery will those with power resort in order to keep their status?

                    It's just silly.

That's on the books? I thought it was defeated. File a suit under the full faith and credit clause if it bothers you.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

Now there's a rhetorical question if ever I saw one.

Yes, I am aware that the act violates the FF&C clause of the Constitution, but there is some loophole that was found to allow it to continue. I have forgotten what it was.

I'll have to reference that information again...
