  • More Islamic endorsement of US policy....

Oooopsies, guess they don't like us too much....

Pakistan's Northwest Frontier Province adopts Sharia

    Some highlights:

On Sunday, 24 NWFP mayors resigned in protest over what some described as the "Talibanization" of government by the ruling Islamic parties.

Last week, the NWFP parliament passed a law making it illegal to wear shirts or trousers in schools and colleges.

It also began a campaign to remove any billboards bearing pictures of females.

Earlier this month, authorities banned male coaches from training female athletes in the province and barred men from watching women's sports events.

In addition, they have called for compulsory reading of the Quran, Islam's holy book, in schools, and passed a resolution that only women doctors should carry out medical tests on female patients.

    ....

Winning their hearts and minds, we are. Yeah, baby, we showed 'em who's boss!

So, whadawegonnadoaboudit? Our "ally" that has nukes and looks the other way at Kashmiri terrorists operating from it's territory, is also unable or unwilling to control the backwards reactionaries in it's frontier.

What would you have done then, Mr. Foreign policy genious? Let OBL continue to sit pretty and safely? I don't remember you stating any objections to going through Pakistan back during the Afghanistan War.

Funny, sounds like they still have more freedom than Saudi women do.

And Musaharaf doesn't have any control over his provinces. It's like a foreign country, always been Taliban anyway.

You'd think he could have chosen an example actually from Afghanistan or Iraq.

OOOOOOOHHHHH, hit a nerve did we, dearie? Gonna call Ashcroft and report me? Damn, the nerve to actually point out a fact.

I guess there's really no middle ground any ground between getting OBL (Ooooopsies, forgot, we might not have done that, he might be hanging out as a guest of our "ally," or at least the part of his own country our "ally" doesn't control) while riling up the Pakistanis and letting him "sit pretty." Nope, one or the other, black and white, you's with us or you's agin us, that's the way the world works. Nope, this is nothing to be concerned about - the Great and Powerful Bush expected this. It's all part of the plan.

Actually, dearie, I pointed out repeatedly that the US was running a big risk of pissing off the natives if it didn't handle the situation carefully and make a point of demonstrating that the war was not against Islam, and that the US was going to actually do something useful in Afghanistan.

So what are you going to do, invade Pakistan, since Musharraf can't or won't control his territory. Still talk about "pro-US warlords" in Afghanistan, and "pro-US democracy" in Iraq, while supposed "allies" who have nukes have an ever expanding Islamist presence in their government? With popular support for an anti-US policy?

They've also only gotten started. The Saudis have had a couple of generations to have their system in place.

And Musaharraf doesn't have any control over his provinces. It's like a foreign country, always been Taliban anyway.
Only in the last election has the Taleban support gone become politically legitimized. Which happened to be the first election since Musharraf's coup.

You mean the only relevant places we have to be concerned about the expansion of Islamic fundamentalism are those places we've already invaded and occupy with our forces? Everywhere else it's ok?

Those are the only places where we have the greatest ability to influence the outcome on the ground.

Not Really. It's just that MtG's repeated trolling gets a little tiring. Esepcially trolls as stupid this one.

What the hell does the OP have to do with Islamic anger at US policy? The Pakistani provinces in question are developing laws that they want to live by, those laws as disgusting as they are. Is MtG really so Americentric to think that they adopt Sharia just as a means of condemning US policy? Now, the election of the Islamics may be tied into anger with US policy, particularly our policy in Afghanistan may have led to fundamentalists getting elected, but that's old news. MtG is just grasping at straws to find any new material for another one of his anti-US foreign policy trolls.

Like there was a lack of material.
