I concur. Maybe we should make a UN General Assembly thread for the Apolyton region, where the talk is moderated as in the General Assembly (i.e. one person talks about an issue, the chair-nation receives via PM requests to question the speech giver, the speech giver replies and he moves on the the next question. The chair decides how many Qs are asked (e.g. 2 or 3)).

I second the need for a consensus on military capability. I also propose that with all the new countries joining that we require everyone to post thier country's name somewhere in each post so people can figure out who is who.
Im realatively new and know who most of the big posters are representing, but sometimes I still have no idea who is doing what.
After all I expect most people have no idea what country Im playing.

We have to keep in mind that NS has a lot of people over 3 Bill so need to accomodate those in this.
I know the populations are a little abstract but it does give some sort of benchmark.
The numbers for expanding into new territories should be modded too.
I think the first expansio at 500Mill is ok. But to get your third territory we should limit that to anyone over the 1.5BillAttitude reflects Leadership!!!

I've been considering the issue of population, and the more I consider it the more I think that either the population figure given on NationStates has to be ignored or everyone should be assigned a population.
That, or each territory is assigned a population and a population growth rate. (Yes, I know we don't have a time scale convention. That's another problem.) I think it's worth at least trying.
(If we do, though, I call a small-but-militaristic Switzerland-type country.)Everything changes, but nothing is truly lost.

the problem we have of course is that to paly a real game on here, we need some base to start from.
I agree the populations do grow too large too quick and those who registered nations a few years ago have some advantages.
however, as has been seen over the past few months, we have managed to roleplay some great stuff, the people involved had vastly different sized populations and still we had few problems.
So whilst i think populations may be too large , with some good role play we can overcome it all.
The large nations have so far not abused the system and the small narion such as frankychan and Azan have had fun.GM of MAFIA #40 ,#41, #43, #45,#47,#49-#51,#53-#58,#61,#68,#70, #71

high pop, forced military service, my nation is one of the fittest and healthiest, people are all trained martial artists, largest defence force per capita in apolyton for a long time and the strongest possible economy to easily uphold it, and unlike these UN members theres no ethics involved on what weapons i've developed
Nerve staples = north korean style brainwashing + labotomy if you want it brought into modern terms.
All Enemy aircraft attacking the city have been destroyed and losses were light on the Audlonina side. Free Azani airforce handled most of the attack and the inexperienced Hive Pilots were no matchy for the highly trained Auldonina and Azan pilots.
"We've overhead now"
"Check; weapon armed, altitude correct, weather fine, wind still. Command do we have a go?"
Radio cackles
"You have a go"
"Affirmitive, commencing drop 14:49"
The H-29 Transport planes rear end opening and a gigantic bomb slowly slipped off its tail and into the air, it's descent to the city below against the backdrop of a bright day, the sun gleaming off its silver exterior.
The bomb known only as X to all those not involved with creating it or the Chairman was designed to solve once and for all the problem of Tel Azan.
The impact could be heard throughout the entire city as a cloud billowed above, thick enough to block out the sun and yet slowly settling over the city unseen to the eye as it did so. The transport and it's escort flew away, a sick grin on the odd pilots face but for the most part they were just blank, nothing special had happened in their opinion. Satellite images showed otherwise ...
Hive
"Chairman pictures are in, the device hit 1minute ago"
"Show me, and attempt to contact our troops hiding in the bunker"
The images flickered across entire walls as dozens of seperate images from across the city showed citizens writhing in agony on the floor, choking out blood. The bomb was designed to render a city inhospitable for decades. The fine but heavy powder clung to surfaces such as buildings until it was brushed off by contact, the particles would then hopefully from the skin work their way through into the body either by a cut or through any pore. Once inside the body as little as 0.01micro grammes per 5kg of mass would be lethal within 2-3.5 minutes depending on the person as the respiratory and nervous system came under assault.
For instance, the growing populations of Al Mastif and Auldoninna, neither with a great deal in the way of arable land and resources (other than oil and uranium in Squeblish Nef?'s case)?
Or maybe the right-wing 50 million population of Karakas mysteriously transplanted on top of socialized 100 million Centralians and 210 million Nooslanders?Everything changes, but nothing is truly lost.

I won't argue, there have been some interesting moments of late. But does no-one think that assigning populations could make for interesting situations?
