  • Dear GGS'ers playing Diplomacy,

I am truly sorry about the unusual delay of the game report, Fall 1906.
Since Thursday I didn't have access to my e-mail any more, which was most unfortunate. At the moment -Sunday evening- I do have access again, but so far I can only find orders of two players, who I had both already sent a message of 'Orders received'. So I would call this a case of force majeure.

Since an interruption this severe is rather uncommon I have decided that our game should not suffer as a result of it. So far the four remaining players have always sent in their orders in time. Actually I expect the orders of some to arrive in due time.
I have decided to wait and would ask those players who haven't received a message confirming the arrival of their orders to send them to me a second time. Please do so as soon as posible!
When someone else wants to change his orders that is also still possible.

As soon as I have received orders from all players, I will make up the game report and send it to you as quickly as possible.

My sincere apologies for the inconvenience,
    Thanking you in advance!

    • I'll be leaving country next saturday, and I'll probably be busy packing and such a few days earlier. So, it would be nice if the final person who has been unable to submit his moves would try to do it again and find a way to communicate with our GM. As for my trip, it probably won't stop me from playing, but it might affect the speed of diplomacy, so I don't think there will be need to adjust the deadlines.

GGS-wise, I've been dead for some time now so this shouldn't have much effect on this front either.

      • Dear Leland,

I hope your absence from GGS will only be temporary. I would truly miss your contributions. I hope all is well -you do sound a bit sad.

Enjoy your holiday! Where are you going?

        Sincerely,

        S.Kroeze

PS: As far as I know my connection is fine, so I do not understand this delay without end. You can rest assured I will send the report at least a week in advance of the next deadline: 31st of July.

        • I do apologise for my absense from diplomacy these past couple of weeks, I've hardly been at my computer at all, and this is more than likely to continue for at least a little while longer.

The same obviously applies for my lack of contribution to GGS, I am trying to keep up with what's happening when I can and I have no intentions of leaving the team.

          • Hey gys,

I'll be unavailable from now untill 15 or 16 august. I am on holiday then with my friends and will have no internet connection at all in any means. So no ggs for me 'till 16 august then.

I still hope you guyts can make this 2-3 weeks more ggs-productive then the last 2-3 were, because this isn't the way to go...

            With friendly greetings,

            Elmo

            • Damn!

Obviously S. Kroeze's broken email adress meant that he didn't get the revised orders list that I sent a few days after the first one, which DID include build orders.

Oh well... I guess you can't win everything. Hopefully it wont matter that much.

I am home now, after a really cool vacation. I will leave again later today, though, to spend some time with my friends. I will, however, be back tomorrow night.

After that I don't really have any plans untill college starts in late August.

So I will do what I can to kickstart GGS again - start some discussions, develop some ideas etc - just the usual annoying old me.

              • Dear GGS'ers playing Diplomacy,

                I have a sad message:
Due to a second consecutive NMR by the Turkish player I am forced to search for a substitute, willing to continue this game playing Turkey.
This result of not sending in orders in time twice, was announced in my message posted on this Forum on the 7th of May, 2001:

                quote:

Yet since NMRs are truly a disaster and most damaging to this game for the other players, I will be compelled to take measures when the same player makes this slip repeatedly.

IMPORTANT: When a player does not send me his moves in time twice, within a period of five seasons, I will throw him out of this game and seek a substitute!

No GM rejoices enforcing such measures, yet sadly enough they have proven to be sometimes necessary to guard the interests of the dedicated players.

I do not enjoy this decision at all!
Yet Diplomacy should be played with actively participating players and not with countries constantly in civil disorder.

So I will not send you a game report of Spring 1907 until we have found a substitute. Having received orders from all other countries, those orders remain valid of course. I will inform you all about a new deadline. You could also send me new orders before this new deadline, replacing the old.

I will actively seek for a substitute, but help on your part is positively encouraged. Please help us all! I think this game "SANGLOTS" is still interesting enough to be worth trying to find a substitute.

                I am rather disappointed!

                Sincere regards,

                S.Kroeze

                • It is really sad that there have been so many NMRs in our game. It doesn't take that much time to write at least some orders, so I really don't understand why this happens. Is it just lack of interest? Or is it because the delay between the deadlines is so long, that people don't have the patience? This game is after all quite long. But in shorter games, the diplomacy part would suffer. Well anyway, I'm particularly sad of course about the Turkish NMRs, because they were my only friend, and they being in civil disorder, I will propable lose control of the Mediterranean, and thus lose the whole game... not meaning that I would have won otherwise.

                  • Hello everybody.

Please post the next deadline also in this forum, since checking my emails is not as convenient as browsing the web where I am now. Thank you.

                    • OOPS

Sorry guys, these past few weeks have been mad for me, seriously mad. I've hardly been at my computer at all, let alone online - I want to try to get back to being online more, but it will be difficult for me at least for a while.

I'm so sorry for not sending my orders in, I feel terrible for that.

                      • I am truly sad about this, too. It was truly great playing with you, Chris. Especially kicking you ***! Not that we were very succesful doing that...

I hope we can find a replacement soon.

                        • Yesterday I had a great chat with Mark Lipovrovskiy, and I invited him to join the game playing Turkey. He sounded pretty enthustiastic, so I think we might have the player we are missing. Mark, if you are interested you can either mail S. Kroeze, or you can post in this thread.

                              Dear Mark Lipovrovskiy,

When you are seriously interested please send me an e-mail with your mailing address, so I can send you by mail a copy of the rules and of the map. You can decide after you have received my mailing.
A lot of information can be found in this thread. Discussion about Diplomacy starts somewhere on page 2. Many questions about the game are answered there.
                              Thanks for your interest!

PS: I hope you are aware of the fact that Turkey will probably not win this game. Yet it has a good chance to survive till the end. I think this is a good opportunity to learn this excellent game. All participants had never played it before.
