  • Dear GGS'ers playing Diplomacy,

I received an e-mail from Mark_Lipovrovskiy, confirming the arrival of the map and rules. When nobody objects I would propose Sunday, the 19th of August, 8.00AM(GMT) as the new deadline for Spring 1907.
Having received orders from all countries except Turkey, those orders remain valid of course. You can also send me new orders before this new deadline, replacing the old.

    Sincere regards,

    S.Kroeze

    • Great! Didn't Leland go on vacation? And is he back yet? Just making sure that my valuable ally is ready for this...

I should get a new signature, BTW.

      • A. What turn is it? 1906? Spring? Fall?
But, unfortunately, I can't understand your handwriting :\
I don't know the squiggly stuff if you know what I mean. If you could reprint the situation over here i'd be immensly thankful.

Next turn will be Spring 1907.
        Current position of units:
        ENG : A Gas, A Mar, A Bur, F GOL, F Yor, F Bel, F WMS, F ENC, F Tun
        AUS : A Tus, A Bul, A Ven, A Alb, A Tyr, A Rum, F TYS, F Nap, F Tri
        RUS : A Sev, A Hol, A Kie, A Mos, A Ukr, A Sil, F NTH, F Lpl, F Den, F NWS
        TUR : A Arm, A Con, F BLA, F AEG

NB: During the last supply centre count, Greece was under Turkish control.
Russia has only ten units, though it controls twelve supply centres.

To my knowledge (Temp)Leland is still on holiday, yet he didn't ask for delay. He has probably -and hopefully- still access to the Internet.

I hope he allows me to pass it on.

          • I am reading a book which I would like to recommend highly:
D.S.Landes: 'The Wealth and Poverty of Nations. Why some are so rich and some so poor', 1998

The title describes aptly what this book is about. It concentrates on the early modern and modern period. The author doesn't hesitate to take some rather controversial stances on several issues. And it is very well-written!
Especially Joker will like it, I think.

            Other great books:
W.H.McNeill: 'The Rise of the West: A History of the Human Community', 1991
W.H.McNeill: 'The Pursuit of Power. Technology, Armed Force and Society since A.D.1000, 1982
P.Kennedy: 'The Rise and Fall of the Great Powers: Economic Change and Military Conflict from 1500 to 2000', 1987
And of course: J.Diamond: 'Guns, Germs and Steel. A Short History of Everybody for the Last 13,000 Years', 1998

            • Cool, thanks, S. Kroeze. I will check it out, then!

I just got back from my introduction trip at university. It was really great, and I am positive that I will enjoy it here.

I am, however, sad to see that no activity has been going on here while I was away. But I guess we just have to change that, then!

                    • Dear GGS'ers playing Diplomacy,

I have a rather sad message:
It seems Mark L. is unwilling or unable to send in orders. So due to a second consecutive NMR by his country I am forced to search for a substitute, willing to continue this game playing Turkey.
This result of not sending in orders in time twice, was announced in my message posted on this Forum on the 7th of May, 2001:

                      quote:

Yet since NMRs are truly a disaster and most damaging to this game for the other players, I will be compelled to take measures when the same player makes this slip repeatedly.

IMPORTANT: When a player does not send me his moves in time twice, within a period of five seasons, I will throw him out of this game and seek a substitute!

No GM rejoices enforcing such measures, yet sadly enough they have proven to be sometimes necessary to guard the interests of the dedicated players.

As GM it is my duty to guard the interests of those players, who take a more serious approach to this game. Diplomacy should be played with actively participating players and not with countries constantly in civil disorder.

So I will not send you a game report of Fall 1909 until we have found a substitute. Having received orders from all other countries, those orders remain valid of course. I will inform you all about a new deadline. You could also send me new orders before this new deadline, replacing the old.

I will actively seek for a substitute, but help on your part is positively encouraged. Please help us all! I think this game "SANGLOTS" is still interesting enough to be worth trying to find a substitute, though the end of the game seems near. Perhaps M@ni@c is willing to take over Turkey?

My faith in humanity was already limited. This experience of NMR's without end has in no way contributed to restore any confidence.
I have a lot of respect for Joker, Leland and Amjayee, who are clearly able to send me their orders in time. Without their positive attitude this entire game would be a torment without end. Thank you!

                      Sincere regards,

                      S.Kroeze

                      • Guess I owe y'all an apology... Combination of stress from school and lack of mood since the bombings (took this really personally... or something...) I haven't even had time to say that I'm prob. out. Didn't even notice that it's 23rd today.

                        Sorry, ppl...

                        • PEACE IN EUROPE!!!

                          The game "SANGLOTS" is over!
A proposal to end the war was accepted by all remaining active powers, i.e. England, Austria-Hungary and Russia. Since Turkey was currently in anarchy it didn't have a vote in this matter.
                          Final result:

                          1. RUSSIA (The Joker)
                          2. AUSTRIA-HUNGARY (TempLeland)
                          3. ENGLAND (Amjayee)
                          4. TURKEY (Chrispie/Mark_Lipovrovskiy/Anarchy)
                          5. ITALY (VetLegion)
                          6. FRANCE (The Diplomat), GERMANY (ElmoTheElk)

I kindly invite all participants to write a so-called game end statement and post it in the new thread I have created.
                          Please do so!

                          • Dear GGS'ers, Diplomacy addicts and others,

Some of you, i.e. Joker, Leland and The Diplomat, have expressed the wish to play another Diplomacy game. I am willing indeed to host it. Yet I fervently hope we will endure less NMRs this time.

This is the reason I have decided we need at least one standby, willing to take over a power in anarchy if necessary. Chance will decide who will begin this new game as standby.
So we need eight people willing to participate!

Of course I am willing to send a copy of the map and the rules of play. So those interested can send me an e-mail with their mailing adddress. Yet I am not in the mood to search actively for new players. The crisis of 1907 of "SANGLOTS" and the countless NMRs in general have already tested my nerves.
So it is up to you!

                            Sincere regards,

                            S.Kroeze

                            • Thanks a lot, S. Kroeze.

I will begin looking for people who would like to participate in the game. And I agree with you in hoping that there will be way fewer NMR's in this game than was the case in Sanglots.

                              • I might be willing to join such a game as a voluntary standby, so I would not start the game right away, but rather if someone goes into anarchy. But not as an official player right now... and of course I would wish to receive the game reports just like all others to keep updated of the progress.
