I have been in mainy European countries. I like France and Italy, though in Italy it's quite hot on summers. And Sweden feels almost like home, so it's nice to visit there, too, but on vacations I prefer going to Central and South Europe.

Is this becoming a vacation thread?
If so I agree with Amjayee. France and Italy are great countries. And the Netherlands is really nice as well. A lot like Denmark, so I feel at home there.

OK. Vacation tread... I like The Netherlands too.
And you're right; it's pretty much like Denmark (only we WILL get the Euro in 2002
) I also like France and escpacially England. Been in London 2 weeks ago... It was really cool there.
O, and about the beer: Kronenborg is really not my favourite... Just give me a Palm (belgian) or a Heineken and I'll be just fine!

I d like to travel across russia, perhaps via transsiberian rail.

This seems to have become the official out-of-topic thread.
So, I thought of bringing forth something totally different.
For those of you who are not certain are global warming and greenhouse effect total bull**** or not, a good place for practical experiments is here in Finland. Usually by now we have temperatures well below freezing and lots of snow. Actually the snow should have come a month and a half ago. But; we have no snow at all, and temperatures are still above freezing. The winter is 1-2 months late - it's the warmest December in a century. And every year it has been warmer. So, judge for yourselves...
People might think that we have nothing to complain, if we get warmer winters. But here we are so used to it that we are feeling strange if it isn't cold on winters. And snow makes everything look nicer; it's not nice to stare at ugly grey-and-brown landscape and skeleton trees. The point is, that we are not having a proper winter, but also not proper autumn or anything. It's something in between, and it's not nice, since we get the worst parts of both autumn and winter - it's cold enough to wear winter clothes, but still so warm that we are sweating... and no snow, which would make winter worthwhile and nicer.
But enough complaining.

For those who think that what's happening in Scandanavia is a fluke, I would like to remind you all about what's going on with the environmental damages here in Florida... as well as what's going on in Louisianna where I used to live.
The oceans ARE rising, there is no question about that. And for two states that are mostly right at sea level, below in some places and above in others, even a few inches has already created a noticable difference in the delicate eco-system of coastal sandbar-type islands I forget what they're called now. Just a few inches and these islands that used to protect the mainland by acting as a natural breakwater are eroding away at an alarming rate. Many have already deteriorated and the seas are encroaching on the delicate swamplands and marshes which are the natural habitat for countless fishes, frogs, turtles, birds, not to mention alligators, the hunting of which is now illegal in Florida due to vastly decreased numbers partly in response to the decreased habitat. Not to mention that about half the people in Florida live in the Miami-South Beach area which isn't but a few feet above sea lavel.
Rising sea levels aren't a theory any more, it's a documented truth that was observed over the past few decades, and not only has it been proven that the oceans HAVE ALREADY BEGUN, but they will continue to do so, causing billions in property damage in Florida and Texas alone, not to mention irreparable ecological damage.
In addition to that, has anyone noticed how the Atlantic hurricane season seems to be getting more and more severe every single year? Two years ago it was the most active than it's been in 150 years. And some would have us believe that the global climate simply went through a "mild period" the past century. Now ask the residents of the Keys if they are concerned with bigger more powrerful hurricanes combined with higher sea levels!
I'll get off my horse now =)

Yeah, London's a cool place. And so it New York. But my favorite city has to be Rome. That is an incredible city.
I don't really know about that Palm beer. Heineken is pretty good, only I have not drinken it very much. A few times in Amsterdam, but that is about it.
And don't worry, Vet. Germany is pretty much just autobahns.
Global warming:
Yeah, I have thought about this as well. We have the excact same thing in Denmark. Although it has been years since we have a white christmas, it is usually pretty cold in December. But it's about 10 degrees right now, and the flowers and trees are about to come out! And I agree that this is just bad whether. I like snow. It gives everything a nice look.
All since the mid nineties I have felt like this was when the future was coming. Things that I have always thought of as science fiction are now becoming real. Cloning, genetic engineering, mobile internet, global warming, space tourism etc. We live in an interesting time, that's for sure.

You're damn sure we live in an interesting time!
About teh global warming: I live about 10 meters below sea level
The Netherlands are quiet world famous as it comes to water-management. However, I don't totally agree about the global warming effect. It IS there, but it's just there because of the time we're living in, not because of our own abuse of the planet.
Not sure though, as nobody probably is...

Gloabal Warming - I (like others) are still unsure of the effects of global warming. I know someone whoo ois studying enviromental science. This person has siad that the world temperature rises and falls in waves. There is sufficent evidence to say that it was like this along time ago and then fell again.
Suffice to say that too coculd be bulls**t and Global Warming is happening. Who knows?

Yes, I have heard similar things. That the earth changes the global temperature from time to time by itself, that humans only cause 1.5% of the CO2 sent into the atmosphere each year, the rest being from earth itself etc etc.
And maybe it is true, that the whole warming has nothing to do with us. But that doesn't mean it's not there, and that it will change a whole lot. But the scientists just can't agree on this. Most of them believe, that we are the cause of the warming, but others, and not only those on oil companies' pay list, believe something else.
I just don't know, honestly.
