    Military Junta Squashed!
Unbeknownst to the military high command in Athens, a renegade Colonel had kept a portion of the Greek army at "stand-by" readiness, having ignored previous orders to stand down. The Colonel, whose identity has not been disclosed, is being held at the Retsina Naval Base pending a Court Marshal trial.

The Colonel is reported to have believed that the state of the world is far too dangerous to reduce the level of readiness of the Greek armed forces. Government officials responded to this assertion by stating that new technologies allow for Greek security even at reduced readiness levels. All remaining units formally under the Colonel's control have been ordered to stand down. This now means that only one nation on earth is not at peace.

Cities of Petroleum Bloom in the Desert!
With the encouragement of Vice- president Cheyneyopolous, an extensive program to drill for oil in the high deserts has begun. Settlers are being given financial incentives to found outposts in these desolate lands. Citizens of these new settlements will then be able to provide shelter and services for the petroleum workers. The government has promised to provide aqueducts to bring water to these parched regions, so that the newly fertile soil can be farmed. Thus do the most inhospitable regions of Greece burst forth in flower under the enlightened hand of the glorious Fascist regime!

Study Finds Education Funding Inadequate Throughout Greece.
A report released today by the Mousaka Department of Education finds that Greek students are lagging behind students of another developed nation, thus diminishing our competitiveness in the realm of scientific progress. Recommendations for the construction of schools and universities have been made, and fund raising has already begun in an effort to finance plans for new construction.

One such institution of higher learning, the Xenophon Computer Center, has recently opened its doors. Unfortunately, allegations by the Sparta Decency League of students gaining access there to obscene materials forced its immediate closure by local authorities pending further investigation. Students are said to have been using using the Center's T1 lines to view smut. "Lady Chatterly's Lover" was cited as an example of these pornographic materials by a League spokesman.

"Look at these numbers.. Dont they tell the whole story? Who are the Spaniards kidding?" spoke the head of the Incan Environmental Protection Agency, Montehujhuan. A close friend of Chairman Thor.
"Calm down Monty. You cant really blame them." replied Chairman Thor as he browsed through the report that was handed to him. "Wow.. less than 20 years? Are you sure?" He said looking up.
"Of course I'm sure! Numbers dont Lie Thor. We are headed towards a major ecological disaster within 20 years if the Spanish , Greeks , French and even YOU for that matter dont do something about this rampant polluting."
"We hardly contribute anything to the pollution Monty, you cant.."
"Yes, but your pollution is only rising, same with the French and the Spanish and hte Greeks. Everyone is just talking about reducing pollution while they keep churning out toxins."
"How do you know that there will be a major ecological disaster?"
"The Ice caps are melting Thor, and they're melting faster than we ever imagined. Global temperatures are falling at an alarming rate. The world is going haywire. It is inevitable that there will be massive climatic changes as a result. Dry areas will become flooded, wet areas will stop getting rainfall, swamp lands could be flooded, permanently. Who knows what else could happen!?!"
"I see your point.. concrete steps must be taken..."
