    Turn 96 -> Donicus

Scattered reports of rioting within other nations have reached the ears of the Greeks. We sympathise with them as we are also familiar with upheaval.

The spectre of rioting within the Greek nation is never far, albiet for different reasons.

The situation in Greece has stablizied slightly, but the long process of rebuilding continues. The Greeks are happy to report that the Russian Anarchists have accepted a small token, and hopefully we can begin normalization of relations.

Rome is dissapointed that the Americans would not allow us to form an embassy. We came in peace and wanted a friendly relationship with them. We have noticed alot of American troops in our vicinity lately. All this is very disconcerting to us. We say this that we will defend our borders at all cost and have taken steps to increase our capability to defend ourselves.

            Maximus,
I assure you that those troops have come in peace. They are explorers a long way from home and are quite lightly armed. They did not know of your city in the area until they came upon it. Notice that they have left the area without plans to return.

As for the embassy, I've never been big on embassies. The only time you hear of them are at when hostages are taken or whne they get blown up!

Well it must be nice to be in position not to rely on the benefits of an embassy. We agree that embassy's do have their pros and cons, yet we would be more comfortable with one. We were not worried at first about the wandering soldiers but after a rejected peace treaty, a diplomat confronted by soldiers, refusal of embassy or ignored correspondence. I started to believe the Americans had evil intentions on their mind.

Reports have reached the ears of the Greek Senate concerning the recent closed-door policy of the Americans. Several senators expressed concern that this could destabilize the efforts for world peace.

Ok, I'll give you guys a chance, what are the benefits of an embassy established in one's civilization?

The obvious con is that the other civ has a permanent spy in your civilization.

I suppose the Americans do not want others to find out too soon that they have switched government from democracy to fascism.
                        I can understand that.
Anyway, the Vikings will no longer attempt to establish an embassy with the Americans.

I suppose if I was that far that Fascism was available, I would want to keep it a secret. But I can assure the world, no plans to move the Americans toward Fascism (at least not in HHR, but I can't speak for the secret desires of AL Gore & the like). But he is probably more of a Socialist given the desire to Nationalize everything! But given the depravity of humankind, socialism ends up as Fascism anyway.

No the Americans are a free people and want to stay that way. That's why I am investing billions in SDI!

Tensions are building between the Greek Democratic Union and the Russian Anarchists, as troops are digging in on both sides. In a letter to Stalin, Hextapul has demanded that Russians cede the cities forcibly taken from the GDU.

The letter was greeted by Russian officials with increased troop movement, as it appears that they are willing to propagate war to force a system of anarchy on the common man.

Some of you have been around long enough to recall the strange Beaver worship cult. It apparently has re-emerged with the Dutch nation. The delerious Beaver worship group has forcibly taken a Beaver good within American soil. In fact a Dutch city has been planted within the city radius of an American city.

Apparently diplomatic efforts engaged in between the Americans & Dutch have failed as the city is still there within the US city radius. In fact even my gracious offers to trade that Beaver to the Dutch have failed.

Have the other peace loving civilizations any ideas on how to handle this situation?
