I think the game is more interesting with a few early wars, so I'm not complaining about balance
Also, as aeson said, GS could have moved 3 tiles west and Vox 1 tile east with their starting settlers, which causes them to be 4 tiles closer than their original starting locations.no sig

The hardest part is not being able to get involved with the interesting strategic discussions though.
(And just to be clear, I'm not saying whether teams moved at all, just that it's a consideration both at map generation and in hindsight. That consideration is actually double, teams can move away from each other too. So for any given civ, first turn settling variation is 3 tiles, second turn settling variation is 7.)

Hey that reminds me we need to recipricate with a map to Storm, even though they sent us a partial map they did tell us about the Vox war which they could have keept secret for probably 10 turns or more so I think a full map of our territory is in order. Can someone take as screenie and send it to them?Companions the creator seeks, not corpses, not herds and believers. Fellow creators, the creator seeks - those who write new values on new tablets. I can do it, but not right atm.
I'll do a much zoomed out one - they wont be able to see the resources but they will certainly be able to see more than we did.
If it's okay with everyone, of course..-- What history has taught us is that people do not learn from history.

Remember not to include any Banana territory as they havent made any agreements with them yet, cut it off at the River.Companions the creator seeks, not corpses, not herds and believers. Hello Alpha Centaurians
I am writing to let you know that our recent discussion is being greeted with widespread approval within Gathering Storm.
To recap the basic principles of technology trading and future cooperation among Alpha Centaurians, Team Banana, and Gathering Storm that were discussed:
1. technology would be exchanged among the three teams on an even exchange basis
2. each of the three civs agrees not to retrade any technology acquired in trade from one of the three
3. trades arranged are kept even if a tech to be traded for is acquired by other means
4. each of the three teams agrees to an embargo on the team known as Vox. Technology will never be traded with Vox and borders with them will remain closed forever
We would very much like to know your thoughts on these basic points and if you can find a means of formally ratifying a final agreement as a binding treaty. We also welcome news of any points that Alpha Centaurians may wish to raise.
It is our understanding that the following technology trade is on the table:
Alpha Centaurians trade Alphabet and Iron Working to Gathering Storm in exchange for Math, Masonry, Archery + 150 beakers in future considerations.
I have some additional news. As I mentioned in our chat, I was improvising to propose possible trades. What I neglected to take into acount is that we are very near to completion of Polytheism. This was a research project abandoned in the distant past. Gathering Storm can offer that to satisfy most of the 150 beaker credit.
We look forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.
Regards
nye
- we should ask them for Masonry being exchanged right after Alpha is done - 'because we need to hook up the resource'
- Polytheism aint bad - opens up Literature and Monotheism-- What history has taught us is that people do not learn from history.

Given what you know now, I can say this ... both of us were more than slightly amused to find that our randomly generated world gave such a neat little pair of Vox and GS
Balancing a map is quite hard, especially when one isn't going for 'fully balanced' per se, as in identical starts with identical chances to win, but just going for reasonable (not resourceless, not too close together, not nonviable, not single team continent) starts. The map we ended up with is not the one I'd have designed from scratch by far. But, it's probably a lot more interesting than the one I'd have designed, and that's what's important to the game, after all<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.

Polytheism and Masonry would let us go for Monotheism and get Judism if its still abalible in the 15-20 turns it will take us to research Alphabet. The chances of it still being un-founded are atleast modest, Sarantium has Buddism and has less insentive to go for it so that leaves Mercs and Horde which are suposedly military oriented. Even if it is taken the Parthanon is a good wonder to build once our marble is connected.
I would strongly favor accepting their offer now that it can include Polytheism.
At the same time that we have the three way agreement we will seek a secret agreement with Storm for preferential trading to marginalize Bananas. At the eve of war we will aproatch them with a long term alliance if they stay out of our war, possibly with an agreement to go for a peacefull tech race space victory after some mutual waring against the other teams.
After the trading orgy our score is going to go through the roof as we will be aquiring something like 7 techs in one turns, the other teams will clearly realize what is going on and may band together if they are in contact which seems likly.Companions the creator seeks, not corpses, not herds and believers. The bananas simply wont have so much to trade to get all the techs they want.
At the eve of war we will aproatch them with a long term alliance if they stay out of our war, possibly with an agreement to go for a peacefull tech race space victory after some mutual waring against the other teams.
In the end it will be rampant bashing of the one who's ahead by all the other teams except probably Mercs (who may prove to be a good assistance in those hard times)
After the trading orgy our score is going to go through the roof as we will be aquiring something like 7 techs in one turns
GS research speed is too low, to get Maths by then.
The prereq thing also means we will need to have 2 turns to trade Fishing and Sailing from Bananas.
the other teams will clearly realize what is going on and may band together if they are in contact which seems likly.
I rather see em hastening up the war..-- What history has taught us is that people do not learn from history.
