  • Lets see some fresh power graphs, I think its more likely to be domestic decisions, theirs been no sign of military build up.

      It's unlikely, if it's an important turn then there's decisions to be made which means there's risk. If they could beat them easily it wouldn't be worth discussing.

            • We should start finalizing talks about the Alpha-Maths deal asap, so they can't change minds after seeing us build Oracle and/or Pyramids and/or Colossus.
              Maybe a pm to nye for chat arrangement would be ok?

              • Don't forget archery and our "debt" if we found judaism :

                This was the original tech trade agreement :
                From GS to AC <=> From AC to GS
                After we discover Alphabet :
                Masonry (114) + Polytheism (143) <=> Iron Working (286)
                257 <=> 286

                After you finish Maths :
                Archery (85) + Maths (357) <=> Alphabet (429)
                442 <=> 429

                Total : 699 <=> 715
                This was our repayment offer for them to change research priority:
                If you research and exchange both of those techs ASAP and due to that we manage to found Judaism, we'd be indebted to you by 150 beakers, which you can later use to balance out a tech deal or purchase a cheaper tech outright, if not, we'll stick with the trade deal we had so far, plus the offered 75 beakers IOU.

                Which makes the deal:

                From GS to AC <=> From AC to GS

                After we discover Alphabet :
                Masonry (114) + Polytheism (143) + debt-credits (75) <=> Iron Working (286)
                332 <=> 286

                After you finish Maths :
                Archery (85) + Maths (357) <=> Alphabet (429)
                442 <=> 429

                If we found Judaism
                debt-credits (75) <=> nothing (0)

                Total : 849 <=> 715
                no sig

                • I think we should ask if we can stick to original deal - Alphabet vs Maths + Archery and leave the IOU for later.

                  Alphabet vs Maths + clearing some IOU wouldn't be that bad too, we can do Archery in 3 turns or so.

                  • Diplo message sent to GS via G-mail, taking BT's proposed deal but expressing openess to negotiations.

                    Greeting and Salutations friends of the Gathering Storm,

                    I Impaler[WrG] wish to extend my apologies to your people, firstly we have failed to express our gratitude towards you which arose following our successful exchange of teachings. Our people have been consumed with prayers brought about by a spiritual awakening brought about by the wisdom of both your own people and that of the followers of Banana. Our finest scholars now work tirelessly to codify a belief in a single supreme deity, whom the one Yang must surely be the prophet of. We expect completion in three season.

                    With the great fruitfullness of our past exchanges Alpha Centauri now wishes to breath life into rekindle our old mutual dreams of exchanging our knowledge of Alphabet for your knowledge of Mathematics and Archery. We know full well that their have been many developments since either of us last spoke our will and new negotiations will ge required. I have made several unsuccessful atempts to arrange a face to face meeting between representatives of our peoples but all manor of natural calamities such as Crop Harvests (work), Floods (down IRC channels) and Migrations (me moving into a new apartment) have confounded my efforts. So I resort to our old standby methods of letters brought to you by brave couriers. I hope that this weekend a meeting in IRC can be made. Dose a meeting at 1:00-3:00 GMT Sunday (that would be 6:00- 8:00 PM Pacific time Saturday night) with a backup slot the same time the next night. Channel will be #Negotiations at Apolyton IRC server. Let us start with the old proposal of Alphabet 4 Math & Archery, AC smiles upon this old proposal and advances it as a starting position. We would be most pleased if it was except able as is but are quite open to any counter offers that Storm would care to make. We hope to lay our ink brushes on an agreement soon and to conduct the exchange as soon as possible.for we have many forests that yearn for chopping.

                    • Had a chat with NYE and everything when perfect, they accept Alphabet 4 Math + Archery trade. We should be able to offer and or accept it on our next turn as he says they just hit math (can we confirm that by tech score analysis).

                      Here is the full log

                      nye: this would do

                      Impaler[WrG]: so do you have a good amount of time to talk or are you constrained?
                      nye: i have some time, but i am not totally up on the situation. i will do what i can though
                      Impaler[WrG]: I'd like to get the next round of tech trades all but agreed upon and then just do general mapping of ware the continent is going
                      nye: good idea.
                      Impaler[WrG]: you got the G-mail message we sent right?

                      nye: will you be around tomorrow?
                      Impaler[WrG]: Ok well down to buisness, we start off with Mathematics and Archery 4 Alphabet, what dose GS think of that?
                      nye: one moment
                      Impaler[WrG]: in the evening I think, but durring the day I'm moving the last bit of stuff from my apartment
                      nye: i could be more briefed, and useful, if we meet again tomorrow evening
                      Impaler[WrG]: humm I'm reluctant to quit this chat, its so chancy to get them started
                      nye: but to say it shortly, yes, we want to move ahead with earlier agreed trades
                      Impaler[WrG]: ok we werent sure if your plans had changed
                      nye: our plans have not changed
                      nye: we do not do that. we have an agreement
                      Impaler[WrG]: ok well whats your ETA for finishing Math?
                      nye: give me a moment
                      nye: Math should be done now
                      Impaler[WrG]: I had not recalled us making binding agreements on the math trade but if GS considers it binding agreement AC will afirm this as we still like the trade too
                      nye: it was binding to us, from the moment we said yes, and most assuradly from ythe point we made the first part of the trade
                      Impaler[WrG]: So were ready for imediate Alphabet exchange for Archery + Mathematics once your finished with your side of the techs
                      Impaler[WrG]: ok its agreed then
                      nye: we are finished
                      nye: give me a moment
                      Impaler[WrG]: oh you hit math already
                      nye: yes
                      Impaler[WrG]: ok then I guess we should send you the trade on our next turn
                      nye: please, allow me to review things. i want to make sure i have it right
                      nye: i think we are good to go. offer alpha, we will peply with math and archery
                      nye: how goes mono?
                      Impaler[WrG]: 3 turns to go
                      nye: good news. you should be jewish when next we talk
                      Impaler[WrG]: Actualy Yangish
                      nye: our lunge for a religion did not go so well. no doubt you saw our losses
                      Impaler[WrG]: yea a large drop in power
                      nye: belive it or not, Vox gave us a 3 skirm to 1 archer shot at their capital. the rng ran against us. we will wait for axe.
                      Impaler[WrG]: you tried to attack them and died
                      nye: yes
                      Impaler[WrG]: you mean their city was defended by only 1 archer???
                      nye: we had a :60% shot of winning outright right there. oh well
                      Impaler[WrG]: how could they be that weak
                      nye: yes. 1 2city defence archer
                      Impaler[WrG]: weird
                      nye: we gamed it out. we had a 2 in 5 chance of losing. We lost
                      Impaler[WrG]: I figured they would have upwards of 6 archers defending
                      nye: they have their archers scattered all over
                      Impaler[WrG]: I mean what else are they going to build
                      nye: they built a settler
                      nye: quite a bit of cheek
                      Impaler[WrG]: A settler? Jezze thats ballzy
                      nye: yes
                      Impaler[WrG]: so I guess the archers are defending the new settler
                      nye: it won't matter too much. too much weight now, even if we have to wait to carve them out
                      Impaler[WrG]: yea catapults will end it no matter what
                      nye: last i saw, the new settler is not evident. most likely going towards you and nana
                      Impaler[WrG]: they might try to get access to some metals
                      nye: maybe
                      Impaler[WrG]: So are you guys going to keep the preshure on them with a new wave of skirmishers
                      Impaler[WrG]: and then deliver the deathblow with some Cats and swordsman
                      nye: yep
                      Impaler[WrG]: so you just started Construction and if I remember correctly your research is ahead of us now
                      Impaler[WrG]: got an eta on it?
                      nye: possibly. i haven't read that much ahead
                      Impaler[WrG]: cause I'm starting to think about a third round of trading
                      nye: what do you have in mind?
                      Impaler[WrG]: were not headed for Construction, I think we will do Literature and Sailing
                      Impaler[WrG]: and ofcorse we agreed to trade Mono back to you
                      Impaler[WrG]: perhaps something can be hashed out their
                      nye: very likely
                      Impaler[WrG]: Also need to figure out Bananas plans
                      nye: that would help
                      Impaler[WrG]: were still hoping they will do Monarchy
                      Impaler[WrG]: Its going to get harder and harder to get Bananas to offer a usefull tech
                      nye: lots of things they can do
                      nye: dead ends and what not
                      Impaler[WrG]: what do you recomend
                      nye: of course, if they don;t grow, well then
                      nye: i'm in no position to make any recommendations today
                      Impaler[WrG]: youve been out of the loop for a while
                      nye: if i knew we could chat, i would prepare
                      nye: but yes, out of loop. not thinking about it
                      Impaler[WrG]: well I think things are going quite nicley for our continent in general
                      nye: i agree based on superficial knowledge
                      nye: are you going to stick around?
                      Impaler[WrG]: Were starting to plan our 4th city location
                      nye: if so, i will pay more attention
                      Impaler[WrG]: yea I'll be sticking around for diplo for the forseeable future
                      nye: ok. if we're actually going to play this, i will pay more attention
                      Impaler[WrG]: ok well I think we have covered all the major stuff, if you have any other questions or concerns
                      nye: contact you?
                      Impaler[WrG]: you mean in the future
                      nye: yes
                      Impaler[WrG]: or just ask me now
                      nye: outside of tech trade, or you being able to attack the Voice in 4 turns with 2 axe, my concerns are in the future
                      Impaler[WrG]: we might be a litttttle far to pull that attack off
                      nye: i suspected so.
                      Impaler[WrG]: ofcorse the scout of ours is in the area....
                      Impaler[WrG]: oh that reminds me I think it came across some Iron last turn
                      Impaler[WrG]: off on the western coast, I dont think you guys had that area explored
                      nye: hmm
                      nye: where abouts?
                      Impaler[WrG]: south west corner I think
                      Impaler[WrG]: were following the coast southward with the scout
                      nye: yeah. got that.
                      Impaler[WrG]: are you guys planning a 4th city as well
                      nye: i'd say yes, but wars do all sorts of strange things to plans
                      nye: however, if you uncover the coast a bit more, there will be atrade route
                      Impaler[WrG]: I think we have full unobstructed tiles down the west coast of the continent so as soon as you have a coastal city we will be ready to trade
                      nye: our river meets the ocean straight SW of the cap
                      nye: follow the coast, and you will open the trade route
                      Impaler[WrG]: oh rivers will connect trade routes, hadn't though of that
                      nye: yes
                      nye: fishing is a fun tech
                      Impaler[WrG]: but I though it was Sailing that did the trade routes
                      nye: oh. maybe taht then
                      Impaler[WrG]: well its on our to do list
                      Impaler[WrG]: ok I'm looking at that map theirs a river connecting all your city sites
                      nye: yes
                      Impaler[WrG]: it should meet the coast off to the east someware in the area our scout is exploring
                      Impaler[WrG]: its hard for me to figure out ware as I cant open our turns and no ones posted any resent screens of the area our scouts explored
                      Impaler[WrG]: I think were a bit south of that wheat
                      nye: it meets the sea straight sw of our cap
                      Impaler[WrG]: brb
                      nye: 1 1 1 1 1 1 by the key pad
                      nye: i say good night
                      * nye has quit (Quit: )

                      • Ok, plan goes as follows - we offer the trade once we get the turn (too bad they didn't themselves), they wont suspect anything before the start of turn (cos we finish oracle at next endturn and GE is born ).

                        • Greetings Sheng-Ji Yang,

                          I am not our diplomatic voice, but I feel compelled to pass along a message regarding the next turn - we have offered the trade of Mathematics & Archery for Alphabet. I can't speak to whether or not this trade was an 'agreement' or 'proposal' in the past, but I do know that the Gathering Storm considered it effectively decided, and our word is a strong as...a gathered storm. :-)

                          We would wish your scholars well, but don't want to disturb them - please pass along our regards when they have completed their work.

                            • So, thanks and asking about their ETA on Construction and are they willing to trade it would be in place

                              Meanwhile we can tell, we're still one turn on Monotheism and then we take Sailing as we failed to get it from Bananas.

                              We should also draw up further plans for our research - if they refuse to trade Construction, we should take it ourselves, if they trade, we should think of what could we take next.

                              • Message to GS should contain :

                                -> we succesfully founded Judaism, thanks go to GS because you changed your research plan for it.
                                -> as agreed upon, our thanks consits of either monotheism (171 beakers) or a general 150-beakers debt to you.
                                -> we will finish sailing in 3 turns and have the complete coast line mapped, upto the river. This will enable trade routes between us, what does GS think about open borders ? (either trade-only or unit-passing rights too)
                                -> what's GS' stance on trading construction once you finish it ?

                                now, only thing left is writing that in a nice letter
