  • Okay. I have heard several people support Engineering as our next goal, so let me throw this out there as a proposed tech plan. I am also including our estimated time to discovery. I am basing this on our ability to do Construction (350 raw beakers) in approximately 3 turns. I am going to assume that our economy / research ability trends slightly upwards, with bigger cities and more improved tiles outweighing our increased expansion / city maintenance.

This is of course somewhat of a guess, but if you have opinions on

Metal Casting: T116 (by trade with Templars for Aest, Lit and HBR)
Machinery: T117 (by trade with Banana for Aest, Lit and Mon - already given by us)
Construction (350 raw beakers): T118 (self researched)
Calendar: T119 (by trade with Banana for Construction - could be delayed)
    Music (600): T123 (self researched)
Drama: T124 (trade with Banana for Music)
    Engineering (1000): T131 (self researched)
Feudalism (700): T132 (trade for Engineering)
Philosophy (800): T132 (trade for Engineering or possibly our great Scientist)
    Guilds (1000): T139 (self researched)
    Nationalism (1800): T154 (self researched)
Gunpowder (1200): T161 (self researched or possibly earlier in a trade)

That gives us ~50 turns till we are ready to start drafting and whipping and whupping. Probably around 60 turns till we start war?

That also gives us about 37 turns (T124-161) to get the Globe up and running, once we get Drama.

So thoughts / comments / modifications on this?

    • Adding to what regoarrarr just posted, his timeline also gives us 13 turns to build a mix of cats and elephants, another 8 to build cats, elephants, and pikes, and then 12 to crank knights.

      • As a general guide, I think it looks good. I don't want us to look too far ahead though either; let's not send PAL any messages "giving up" Liberalism until we see how the next 15-20 turns play out. But it's good to have a long-term general plan formulated too, and on that note, I think we're in good shape.

One question: why Music tech next after Construction? Might we be better served going elsewhere?

        • I vote for not researching music. Engineering next, then keep it nice and flexible.

          • I also think Engineering should be our next priority to make sure we get it first. And we should start securing trades for it already, to lock them in before others do it.

            • Reasoning for Music -> Trade already lined up (conditional on Banana research rate, completed trade gives us double-speed theaters and dye happiness, and the Free Artist.

I'm concerned about loosing the free great person by delaying. Artists are really strong in MP, so maybe I'm just letting my biases show.

              • Yes - that was my reasoning (What sunrise said) for putting Music in there, but I don't mind either way if the team has a strong opinion either way

                For music:
                sunrise

                For Engineering first:
                Zeviz
                sooooo

If we go ENG -> NAT, we can trade Guilds and Drama from Banana, saving 1k of research time. Also, Templars told us they were researching Theo. If we can snag this for Construction (claiming Theo to be useless for a civ with NSR) then we can get Edu for Nat from PAL.

                  • My first thought is to go for Engineering - for Pikes and the extra Road movement which will be valuable for our extensive empire - however I remember a conversation a while ago that mentioned the posibility of pursuing a Cultural victory plan, for which Sistine would be a valuable product.

The team has proven itself able to summon Wonders from the dust of others' research though, and we are skirting a war so I think I have to go with Engineering.

                    • I guess my thoughts are that if we go Engineering first then we're not going to get the Great Artist from Music. And so if we're not, and we're okay with that, do we just skip Music all together and pick up Drama from Bananas for something else?

                      Comment

                      • I agree with regoarrarr - if no free artist then we may as well skip music.

                          • Earlier golden age, golden age during nationalism swap, bomb the "bad ass" spot, wartime bomb on the mainland, or save for the new continent and bomb the first city we found and grab a huge amount of land.

                            • Did we ever get Machinery? It would be great to get a screen of the tech trades screen to see what we have over/under our opponents .

                              • We did get Machinery. I thought that there was a (fairly recent) tech screen screen grab posted in one of the threads, but I could not find it.

We're down (to at least one team): Construction (not for long), Philosophy (PAL just discovered it), and maybe Theology?
