Our only proposal should be: you can be our vassal.
Having read Aidun's second PM in detail, I think this is the only solution that would let Templars continue as a relevant civ in the game, which seems to be their main goal at this point in time. If we're going to offer this to Templars, we should offer to Imperio as well in an open letter:

Become our Vassals and together we can win the game via Domination by controlling the New World.

            - Present tile count to validate our claim.

            Division of Labour

            - Team RB to use ORG trait to settle the New World.
            - Imperio to use their strong lands and FIN trait to drive research.
            - Templars to take care of Homeland Defence. (Chimes with their RP, and they're too lame to do much else.)

Ideally, we should appoint one of our team as a consultant/overseer to each team to buff up their play, but I'm not sure that would be allowed.

I know this contradicts what I wrote in the Imperio thread, but I've never had a problem with Doubletalk It's an off-the-wall proposal, but I don't see any other way that we can actually win the game.

No, that definately won't be allowed.

              No joint victories, either.

              • I would give practically anything to view their boards if we propose that Templars become our vassal. It would be pure comedy gold.

Care to elaborate? If another team beomes our vassal, the record books will record Team RB as the winner, but both master and vassal will know that they achieved victory through their joint efforts.

@sooooo - when the game ends, we can view all the boards at our leisure.

                  • Having Templars become your vassals in game isn't joint victory; Templars still lose. They only "win" by playing well...

Joint victory would mean, say, you and Imperio agree to fight the rest of the world until only you two are left then "declare" victory ie refusing to fight each other. One of the old demogames ended like that...it wasn't pretty. You could go read the arguments in the PTWDG archive.

                    • Ok, so it is allowed if we backstab them at the end, when we no longer need them?

                      Sounds good to me

                      • This is very similar to what I was advocating a bit upthread - I think that they (Templars) know that they can't win, and are just looking for something fun to do. That is why I proposed sending / creating some sort of quest.

I know sooooo thinks it would be comedy gold, but I think it has a closer chance than you might think.

Maybe at least a crazy faction of the team.... (similar to the ones on our team that want to give Cape Town to Imperio)

                        • As far as I understand, there are no factions in Templars. It's Herc alone more or less. Why else would we have to wait for him all the time, pausing the game.

                          • I think Herc is their only turn player, but they have at least two other players total.

                            • I would prefer to work towards eliminating Templars rather than propose that they become our vassals, but it may be worth considering at some point if only for the pure comedy value.

                              • Sure, offer them to become our vassals during next round of negotiations. I think of this more as elaborate taunting than a realistic possibility, but if it does work it will help us deal with Imperio.
