Hello Team Realms,

We will discover Calendar next turn. We have also finally received word from Templars, and they are IN -- they discover Drama in 5-6 turns. What tech are you researching now? We are hoping to trade Calendar to Imperio for Currency next turn; if that works, we'll begin Feudalism immediately.

Hercules from Templars is my current contact with Templars, but he seems to be using his personal email for correspondence. I'll let him know that you need to speak with his team, and see if it's okay to give you his email address.

This was sent on T122, so drama is due turn 127-128. This seems to suggest that Templars don't have any plans to declare on us immediately. I would suggest that Templars and Imperio are not working togther.

Yeah it looks like they won't declare, but they could still be bribed/forced by Imperio to close which would be as bad economically, and worse diplomatically as we won't have a causus belli (but I'm not that would matter much).

Someone should take up contact with Hercules: Templars are looking like a one-man show (at least in terms of active players), so we could reap some benefits from tete à tete contact. That someone should be me, though, as I'm going to be OOP for several weeks in the not too distant future. Any volunteers?

2) Templars traded Theology to Banana, did not get something in return

Templars' actions appear to conflict with our planned research triangle of Construction/Calendar/Drama, so not sure what's going on there. Looks like Templars may be screwing us over on that one. I think we should send them an email asking them what the heck they are trying to do.

Team RB would like to ask you to explain a bit your recent tech trade with Imperio (Theology for Construction & Compass) as Team Banana and Team RB were under the impression that Templars agreed to the proposed triangle tech trade in which Templars supply Drama, Banana supply Calendar & Team RB supplies Construction. How do you see the future of that deal?

Furthermore we would like to offer you once again to extent our Non Aggression Pact beyond the T124. Doubtless, you will have noticed the ongoing arms race between Imperio and Team RB. Imperio continues to ignore our diplomatic efforts, but repeatedly attempted to use spies to sabotage our resources. Luckily Team RB's counter-espionage could thwart the latest attempt.
We feel an NAP between Templars and Team RB will be a first step to return to more peaceful developments on our continent.

Since both issues raised are of somewhat urgent nature we are anxiously awaiting your reply.

mostly_harmless' message gets my approval as well. In fact, if we get any kind of positive agreement from Templars, I think we should propose a defensive alliance with them; i.e. if Imperio attacks either one of us, the other agrees to come to their aid. We would win in either scenario:

- If Imperio attacks us, as we expect will happen, we gain the assitance of Templars... such as it is. (Hey, better than them teaming up against us!)
- If Imperio attacks Templars, we take advantage of their units being down in the south to grab Chichen Itza at the very least, and possibly more beyond that.

Furthermore, I don't think anything would convey peaceful intentions to Templars more than an offer of a defensive alliance. They have to be pretty worried right now, as the smallest and weakest team on our continent. I imagine that they'd jump at the opportunity to gain the security and protection of an offer like that. Then again, this is the Templars, so who knows? But we can always float the idea and see what they think.

One thing we should remember is that Templars are well aware of the strategic importance of the amount of land we have: they pointed this out very early in our border discussions, and they could well have pointed out to Imperio that they needed to stick together to avoid becoming our victims. (The fact that they're turnplay sucks is not relevant here.)

We should still propose a NAP with them, and a defpac would be even better (as Sullla points out). If they turn us down then I'd say it's more likely that they're in cahoots with Imperio, than are happy to stand alone.
