Start with Agriculture and The Wheel
T1: Begin Fishing
T6: Fishing -> Mining
T12: Mining -> Bronze Working
T18: Pop Mysticism from hut
T24: Bronze Working -> Animal Husbandry
T33: Animal Husbandry -> Masonry
T39: Masonry -> Pottery
T46: Pottery -> Hunting
T50: Hunting -> Writing
T58: Writing -> Alphabet
(Rough) Early Build Order
T1: Start building warrior. Swap to work boat after discovering Fishing.
T16: Work boat -> warrior
T19: Warrior -> ??? [not settler/worker]
T25: Double-pop whip (60 shields), either going into a settler or worker
[Speculation time: I believe that PAL put just less than 30 shields into a worker, then grew to size 4, swapped back to worker, and double-whipped it to completion, sending 30 shields of overflow into a settler. This is what the numbers suggest.]
T26-30: Halt growth at size 2 while putting 7 food/shields into settler.
T31: Single-pop whip (30 shields), completing settler. Start work boat (?) while running max food
T33: City #2 settled
T37: Single-pop whip (30 shields) [I think this must be a work boat, with virtually all overflow going into settler. Nothing else makes sense - they can't have whipped a warrior or barracks, we would have seen an increase in Soldier points. And our scout spotted a PAL work boat shortly thereafter.]
T38-46: Capital puts three turns into settler (6 food/shields each turn), spends three turns growing to size 2, three turns into settler (7 food/shields each turn), then whips the final 30 shields of settler to completion
T47: Single-pop whip (30 shields), completes settler
T48: City #3 settled
T50: Warrior #3 built. Not sure if it was capital or second city.
T53: Single-pop whip (30 shields) - second worker? Granary? Not used on anything military
T55: Douible-pop whip (60 shields) used to complete settler
T56: Warrior #4 built. Probably not in capital.
Soldier Points
T1: Start with 5000 from warrior (1000) + Wheel (4000)
T8: +1000 from capital growing to size 2
T12: +2000 (8k) from researching Mining
T19: +2000 (10k) from building post-patch warrior
T24: +9000 (19k) from growing to size 4 (1000) and discovering Bronze Working (8000)
T25: -1000 (18k) from whipping down to size 2
T31: -1000 (17k) from whipping down to size 1
T33: +2000 (19k) from discovering AH
T34: +1000 (20k) from growing to size 2
T48: +1000 (21k) from growing to size 4 [2+1+1 city sizes]
T50: +2000 (23k) from building warrior #3
T51: +2000 (25k) from discovering Hunting
T52: +1000 (26k) from growing to size 6 [3+2+1 city sizes)
T56: +2000 (28k) from building warrior #4
T60: +3000 (31k) from building warrior #5 and growing to size 8
T61: +1000 (32k) from growing to size 10
T64: +2000 (34k) from building warrior #6
T65: +3000 (37k) from building warrior #7 and growing to size 12
T72: +5000 (42k) from building a spear (?) and growing to size 14
T73: -1000 (41k) down to size 12 [slave revolt at Thebes]
T75: +1000 (42k) from growing to size 14

OK, mostly_harmless and I have been batting this around in some other threads - time to bring up the idea in its own right. I'd like to propose that we send off a message to PAL asking if they would be interested in a loose alliance, whereby we would share information and potentially work together to research techs later on. The advantages should be pretty clear:
- Our teams are on different continents, and have little fear of conflicting interests until at least the mid-game, if not the end-game. PAL still has not met anyone else on our continent yet... but they will soon! So now is the time to contact them.
- We know from the Cloak and Dagger info that PAL is off to a good start. That's not really a surprise, as we picked them in the Metagame thread to be one of the most capable teams. Better to have them on our side than against us.
- In a game like this, each team should be relatively equal to each other. Some will be a little stronger, some a little weaker, but we likely won't see disparities as big as between AI civs (at least, not until the warring starts...) To be more specific, two teams working together will ALWAYS beat teams going off and doing their own individual stuff. Our relative positions in this game are rather like England & Turkey in Diplomacy, and everyone who's played that game knows how dangerous an ET can be for the rest of the board longterm.
So I think we should be quite serious about this. At the very least, we should float the idea of a map exchange past them. Neither team is competing for land, and the knowledge would be strategically useful for us both. If they agree, I would send them a picture that looks something like this:
Showing our continent, but with our city info blacked out. (We could also remove the tech info, if desired.) Naturally, we would want the same from them in return...
I don't see any reason not to try and see what they say. Worst that happens, PAL says no and we're no worse off than before. Since none of the other teams are doing much communication, we need to take advantage of that and make some alliances! Our land certainly isn't good enough to rely on inner development alone...
(As long as we don't send the picture until after agreeing to exchange maps, turn off interface, and black out city names and sizes for everybody.) Or not black out anything. I don't think they can learn much from knowing our capital's name and size.
just send whip a quick note to establish initial contact. Here is draft 'formal contact' email.
Sir,
It is my great pleasure to have the chance to discuss our past, present and future with you. In case you are not aware of this, our great civilization is on a different continent than your great civilization. This presents us with an unrivaled opportunity to work together towards a conflict-free future. We would like to discuss this option with you.
How say you?

any other comments on the above draft? Do you want it to be more explicit ... maybe wrapping in part of Sullla's post?

Is it worth to give them a map teaser? Maybe just a few tiles of our continents east coast?
If we wait for them to reply to the initial message, then try to haggle the map exchange, we might be to caravels already.
Just a thought.
Surprising - their response has been pretty quick so far - nothing of substance, but still quick.

Actually, hell, let's just send them a screenshot without promise of anything in return. It would liven the game up that's for sure. I'll take a picture now.
