  • @Tony: Thanks for the compliments for our team.

I still think PAL have chances, being no. 1 in GNP and soldiers and having a fair few techs up on everyone else. But they missed their last turn. I would be sad to have them leave the game, since I was looking forward to a late game struggle with them.

Is PAL's missing of the turn just a blip while their team is away or is it a retirement? And I thought that some of the ex-templars are now members of PAL - could they play the turns?

Either way we need to know.

Also, despite the risk of getting abuse from a petulant Indiansmoke, with no replacements for Imperio I'm going to restate that it would be prudent for an AI to take over their civ.

And let's reduce the turn timer!

    • Eh. Reduce the turn timer to whatever was previously agreed. I was unwilling to change it previously because it would have been a discrepency between how Banana disappeared compared to Imperio.

      • Well, with PAL missing the last turn, I too shall start speaking about this game in the past tense. Besides, an opportunity for me to be AFK until Monday has arisen, and I am taking it.

That said, I would like to extend my congratulations to the Realms Beyond team for a job well done. I was really looking forward to the coming turns, but I have no interest in playing against a ghost.

I guess I should also apologize to all for my part in ending the game prematurely. Had I just agreed with everyone that this was a preordained 2-horse race, I could have just stayed in my corner while destiny was fulfilled. But where the hell is the fun in that?

Sorry, PAL, but the reason you and I could never be friends is not because I was involved in some vast conspiracy with the Realms Beyond team (whose members I have never spoken with until we met in-game). Just like in SP, a proven strategy is to find a civ you have no interest in conquering (yet) and befriend them. And while some have said that this partnership was taken to the extreme, my only regret was not putting more specific terms on our Iron deal (which I am sure much of the fuss was about). But this was only done because we knew we would need Horses at some point, and Realms delivered. Long story short, I don't think either team abused any MP code by being able to forge a mutually beneficial relationship.

The real reason we had to declare on you is (gasp!) because PAL occupied prime low-maintenance land that my predecessors apparently squandered away, and then used our long term NAP to run the table on tech/gold. And sorry, but as I said earlier, I would not have devoted 6+ months to a game if I wasn't going to make an attempt at victory. Your one-sided approach during our NAP gave you the inside track to victory but also left you somewhat vulnerable. I do commend you for the pre-war moves of (1) getting peace terms with Rabbits once Iron was secured and (2) getting Steel via Liberalism. Your one mistake was to not take our team seriously, and you paid dearly for it.

As for the other teams, Templars seemed a bit coy in their dealings with us, which we took to mean that they were mildly under PAL's influence. I think Templars may have been savvy enough to dissuade me from attacking PAL in the early game when our diplomacy flourished, but I cannot know that for sure. I do know that once war was avoided, we didn't hear much from Templars again. For the most part Imperio worked in their own interests as far as I could see, but seemed to have to check with PAL on every tech offer we made.

As for the Rabbits, I wish we could have had better diplomacy. I'll leave it at that.

In closing, good game to all. I am glad I was able to take part.

        • So... is this game officially over? Krill, could we possibly have an official ruling on the subject?

The general consensus among Realms Beyond is that the game has not been decided yet, and that PAL's situation is retrievable, but of course we can't force anyone to continue if there's a consensus on stopping. In my own personal opinion, it would be a shame to stop now... c'est la vie.

          • Ending the game is one thing I can't rule on. I can't force any team to keep on playing. So if PAL and Banana want to cede the game to RB, the game is effectively over (sorry Rabbits, but you aren't really in a position to affect the game under those cicmstances).

So IF PAL and Banana want to forfeit to RB, then yeah, game over basically. I can't see RB losing hte game under those conditions.

            • I think we should all agree to cede the game to Templars

              Comment

              • Well since an RB member is hosting, we don't have to listen to any forfeiture, we can just keep right on logging in and playing anyway if we want

More seriously, I think the official sign of resignation from a team should be an AI takeover. If PAL wants to quit but Banana (or Rabbits) wants to keep playing, an AI takeover of PAL seems to be the most fair option. (My opinion, not team RB's.) I'd rather see that happen than an unpredictable mix of PAL sometimes playing, sometimes having a sub play, and sometimes missing the turn entirely.

I also don't agree with Krill's position re Rabbits. They have every right to keep playing if they want to, even if PAL and Banana both tip their king.

                • I agree with T-Hawk - if you're done let the AI take over (talking to you too Imperio). I'll keep hosting the game as long as people still log in, and as the RB turnplayer I'm happy to play opposite the Rabbits as long as they'd like.

                      • With Banana OOP, we're going to have fewer teams playing than not playing the current turn (unless PAL & Imperio make surprise comebacks).

I'll organise a vote within Team RB to make sure we'd have enough people still willing play following an AI-takeover of PAL.

                        • I think all teams not playing should be turned over to the AI.

                            • I might suggest that any team missing three consecutive turns entirely gets an AI takeover. Any opinions (or official rulings, Krill) on that? Also, can that be done (eg from the Pitboss control screen) in a team's absence?

                              Comment

                              • In the current All War situation, I actually suggest to not wait any longer with AI takeover.
If sunrise can di it as a host he should make the change in this turn (9 hours left).
If PAL or Imperio or Banana want to come back, I am sure they can take over from the AI.
Rabbits have done that already, iirc.
