We have discussed this among our team and have agreed to trade you guys Chemistry once it is researched in exchange for those two cities as well as a lux deal from GS. Also there would be a 20-turn no-trade clause attached to Chemistry.

A twenty turn NDA on Chemistry is cool - and can you assure GS that the cities won't go to ND - who have too many cities atm . We're sure you won't do this but we just need your word.

Any advice from your PBEM vets would be appreciated here...

Can we (1) send you Barc and NM accepted, and in a seperate deal this turn we (2) send you furs unnaccepted, to which you respond with furs=wines accepted?

Or - is there a risk that this might not work and only one of the deals can be done - in which case should we do the lux deal this turn and the cities on the turn after?

I'll try set up a test in hot-seat tonight if necessary, to see if both can be safely done in one turn. If not, or we don't wish to delay too long, we could do it over two turns.

City-Tech Deal is off (misunderstanding)

I apologise for the misunderstanding. If you needed an extra lux too, I don't think we can meet that as part of the city deal.

How about a straight lux-for-lux deal this turn though? - we can leave the cities open (literally!) for negotiation if you can assure us that ND can't reach then on their turn, and if you think there is a deal that can be reached. If so, please make us a counter-offer.

I can send furs unnaccepted this turn - if GoW wish to trade lux just return wines accepted.

I think there was a slight misunderstanding, we were referring to a free lux by GS in exchange for the tech. If you guys want a further tech deal (straight up 1 for 1) we can also negotiate that separately.

Sorry I didn't respond earlier, I had the old pop up blocker blocking my PM notice and forgot to check manually. I am really inexperienced about PBEM too(the only games I've played are the demogames, every other game seems to collapse for some reason). I'll discuss the tech deals and lux deal to see what everyone wants(there is quite a bit of opposition to giving chem at all, astonomy also is possible but since that leads to navigation).

But certainly a lux deal is ok I'm sure. In the end it might be that the 2 cities might be abandoned. In that case that area will probably be settled by ND. There is very much arguement about whether 2 distant cities where corruption is absolute, are worth a tech like chem that leads to Military Tradition.

But discussions will continue.

We've suggested to RP that they might like to consider making peace with GoW, and while there appears to be no unanimous militant determination within RP to continue with an endless cold war, there are some sore feelings that aren't in any urgent hurry to offer GoW early favours.

GS currently have no formal vassel arrangement with RP - we obviously have influence and can advise them but as it stands they maintain their sovereignty. We think that you at GoW should approach RP directly to negotiate peace - perhaps offering some minor trinket or token - not a valuable payment, but a gesture of peace and goodwill. Perhaps a luxury (which they don't need, and won't do them much good) would seal the deal. After all, GS and RP are gone from Bob, so you can recieve your contractual payment from ND.

PS - we sent you furs unaccepted. If you fancy a straight one-for-one lux deal, reply with wines accepted and we'll be in business

It should interest you to know that my duties within the GoW have been expanded recently to Consul of Foreign Affairs. You have probably heard that MZ also has recently been appointed as our Emperor.

In short, this will mean that all discussions will need to be copied to the both of us if at all possible, and with any luck we will have an opportunity to speak with one another soon.

Let me know if your team desires that I should appoint an Ambassador to oversee discussions with your team, for I am aware that at least some may have hostile feelings towards myself.

First of all apologies for my late reply, I've been having some very nasty conection problems and some days can't even access Poly, I hope to have them solved by today.

Regarding a trade with Chemistry, we already have Astronomy, however we would be very i nt erested in trading Chemistry regardless. What tech is GS researching now? We can perhaps make a deal on that
and should costs be different, compensate them monetarily.

First of all, allow me to apologise. My home PC has been on the fritz lately and I've been a bit inactive of late. That should be taken care of by the endo f the weekend, though.

As for Banking, we already have made a deal for Banking elsewhere, unfortunately. However, perhaps we can make a trade based on a future tech? What were your next plans?

We are currently researching Metallurgy, but I don't know the ETA at the moment. Perhaps a deal with an eye to the future would be the most beneficial to both parties anyway?

How about Physics then?

If you send us Chemistry on your turn we can start Physics on our next, while you are working on Metallurgy. Later you could trade us your Metallurgy for our Magnetism. Perhaps we could work together on Industrial techs.

Our position is this : we seek a tech partner for the march into the Industrial Era, but we don't wish to trade any tech that could find its way into Legoland. The faster Lego progress in tech, the closer they move to victory.

So, assuming the details of NDA's and some price balancing would be resolved, are GoW interested in a research partnership with GS along these lines?

If the longer term arrangement does not suit you, are you up for a deal on Chem 4 Physics? Current devalued beaker cost for Chemistry is ~1100, and full cost for Physics is ~1500, but we may be able to concede some of this difference for a deal on Chem-Physics this turn.

Sorry it took me a little to get back to you. I'll be frank as always. I am not really an expert at tech trading so I had to confer with the others before responding.

Anyway, GoW agrees in principle to the arrangement. As such, we will be sending Chemistry along this turn accepted, but understand that further compensation still needs to be negotiated.

Sorry for being unavailable for a chat this weekend. I got too involved with one of the many other demogames that I'm involved with.
