Kholm is in a very good position with many armored units and anti-tank defenses protecting the city.

However, Velikiye Luki has no anti-tank defenses and a large concentration of German units nearby and also is Size 1. On top of that reinforcements are not close and have no way to attack before ending their turn in the city. So it would be pointless to try and hold the city as it would probably be destroyed. So all improvements were sold off and 2 red guards are making a last ditch defense.

If anyone thinks Velikiye Luki should be held or has any suggestions how to do this, I'm open ears

Even if Velikiye Luki is destroyed that means it cant be a location for the Germans to spawn. we can always build another city later so good job!

Yes, but IIRC the one time bonus will be a lot less, if the city trades with itself. A Grozny-Baku route will be more profitable to deliver, and it will give 2 routes at once... just to 2 different cities. Practically speaking, this should be just as good as getting 2 routes to one city.

The real issue is, when do we need the money? RIGHT NOW, it looks like. Making a trade route Grozny-Baku will take an extra turn, the Convoy unit can't move all the way between the two cities due to the slower road movement rate in winter.

So, I would say deliver it UK-Grozny or UK-Baku, which should give a great bonus (which we need more than the ongoing trade routes, right now) and then in summer, focus on creating ongoing routes among Baku/Grozny/Maikop/Tblisi. Later on in the game, we can even create some routes between the big 3 caucasian cities and Moscow/Leningrad/Stalingrad... and once those cities start to celebrate, that's when we build Civilian Donations in one of them.

Six Thousand Year Old Man makes a cogent point, Non-trade routes are a waste. Why not get twice the per-turn arrow bonus for such a small wait?

Without giving it all away right now the priority is UK to Baku/Grozny and Maikop.

For the first three we get twice the initial rubbles and half the long term trade arrows.

The next three units (numbers 4 thru 6) will be Baku to Grozny, Grozny to Maikop, and Grozny to maikop. Those we decided to do second because first of all we need cash now. And in the summer it will be easier and quicker to set up trade routes between the three oil cities. By the time we are done all the oil cities will have three lucrative trade routes. For long term cash. (and science)

There shouldn't be any trading for a city with itself. That was before the Econ Minister and I figured out what the best deal was.

Lets discuss this further in the econ ministers thread. If need be.

The victory at Velik has pushed the germans quite a way back this winter and given us a chance to hold some western cities beyond what was expected!

Now is the time for defence your cities should be building KV1's not Su-122's I would ask Htower to change these before the end of this turn as Kalin could build one before summers end.

I will support your front with a last attack north from Arzamas to clear a few more german tanks before summer.

Do you think you will pillage and roads leading to your front line cities (I would) esp north of demask (need 2 spaces I think)

One RG had to attack and clear the city (the one currently to the right of it) and one RG had to capture the city. Both ran out of move points. So I won't put anymore units into the city.
