@Monk: And Apolyton/Community is about gaming?
Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?

Ming, IIRC, there WAS a CTP OT. Markos did it because we clogged up the general forum too much (well mostly me and Red Trotskyite... that bastard !) .

Shows you how much I knew about the CTP bunch... for the Civer's we did the same for Civ General forums... and I don't remember him creating a Civ OT... we just finally got evicted to the Site OTF when it was created. And then we got to meet people like you and Red Trotskyite for the first time

I note Jamski is posting in OT, now that hes made deity.
Well, Eventis was down for ages, and I just needed somewhere to spam.

However, I found people's opinions in the OTF so entertaining and exotic I thought I'd post a bit more there. (They're only pretending to support Bush to troll people, right? Or have I really fallen to the depths?) Deity popping up recently is just one of those things that everyone seems excited about except me *shrugs*

              Some stats:

Search users where join date greater than 2004-01-01: 6158 (11% of total users)
Search users where login date greater than 2004-01-01: 11125 (21% of total users)
Search users where join date greater than 2004-01-01 AND post count greater than 0: 708 (1% of total users, 11% of users who joined this year)
Search users where postcount EQUALS zero: 33665 (64% of total users).
Search users where postcount EQUALS one: 4570 (6% of total users)
Search users where last login less than 2003-01-01: 20180 (38% of total users)

So, this should give us some idea to the active user base. See, a whopping 70% of users either never posted or posted only once. Besides, if 38% last visited before 2003, that also gives a nice idea. Another tidbit is that only 4% (4.06%, so barely got to that point even) of users have more than 100 posts - and I don't think that anyone less than that can be considered an active poster, with maybe a few exceptions of people who only post in the OTF, yet actively so (Pekka: 60 posts).

Now, some of the people among those 100 posters have left, too. 894 posters of them haven't logged in this year (that's 41% of those with 100 posts). That leaves us with 1238 who visited this year and have over 100 posts. That's just 2.35% of the site users. So, I think that it's most reasonable to assume the active userbase within under 3% of total users, 1200-1400 people.

Mind you, of those, there are some who only post in one or two forum. That means that you're most likely to only know about 300-400 posters by name. Like, if you don't play Civ 3, you won't know the majority of those who post exclusively in Civ 3 forums.

I swear it wasn't my fault!

Though it is funny I came from the CTP OT, when I hated the game even then (before it came out). Yo Yo Yo Hey told me to come to this Apolyton forum to tell the CTPers how much their game was going to suck (a continuing practice which would get him into trouble at a later time ) . I was a Civ/SMAC guy, but didn't really realize you guys had those things .

I didn't realize there were communities here besides Civ. We had a hard core group of Civers back then, and the OTF was quite a shock when it dawned on us that other people were actually using the site

Okay, thank you for the data solver, If I follow it, then I am led to believe:

52470 members have joined since before 2-15-1999

                    6158 users joined since 1-1-2004
708 of those posters have posted since 1-1-2004
5450 of the new members have 0 posts
89% of the new members have 0 posts
11125 users have visited since 1-1-2004

                    33665 users have 0 posts (64%)

AND, when the 6158 newbies are subtracted from that:
                    46312 Total Members
                    28215 Members with 0 Posts

ONLY (61% of members have 0 Posts)

Therefore, there is some statistical evidence to back up my claim about these newbies not posting as much.
What I would like to know is how many of these newbies have 10-30 posts as opposed to members who have been with apolyton before.
Now, I know this is not the most statistically accurate method (since members from 1999 have had 4 years to post, whereas members from 2004 have had 4 months to post)
but it might give us at least a tenuous idea of the situation at hand.

I would gather the data myself but my connection is *$#* slow

But perhaps by not seeming welcoming or seeming too cliquish

the extra registrations could also have to deal with lurkers who are forced to register by the new server to view any threads past the first page in the OT

Hmm... interesting idea Smiley, but I don't really think that such a section is really needed- it would needlessly fragment the community and create more problems in browsing the forum to find threads that people want to discuss.

And also, as Ming has already said...
