I have read and followed the thread first-hand, and your description is very accurate. Several Civ2 and OT posters believed that Trip was honored only because of his postcount, and made it clear they considered Trip to be nothing else than a common spammer.

The flame was quite harsh, and resulted in PCRs on many accounts. However, Trip recieved a particularily bad PCR because he was naughty when corresponding with Ming via PM over the Issue (well, THAT's second hand).

I wasn't following the Civ3 scene by then, but I feel that Trip and MZ have considerably reduced their 'Poly attendance after that incident.

Trip would have been on the list if he were back in his old form. But on the other hand, he used to post in many more forums besides Civ3 ones, so that may just be the difference between then and now for him.

SEVERELY mistaken, actually.

Trip, Master Zen, and myself are the Consuls of the Apolyton Team in the PTW Inter-Site competition. Trip and Master Zen both post A TON in that forum.

The fact that it's a private forum would mean that most people on the site don't get to see just how much work gets done in there.

The issue was connected to the Hall of Fame voting. You see, Trip was one of the people getting a lot of votes for the Hall of Fame and a number of the Off Topic people and the Civ2 people complained about it (for what reason, I can't figure - it was about d*** time that some on-topic Civ3 people were honored). Master Zen, Trip, BigFree, and some others apparently then got into a running flame war with some Off Topic people. Ming apparently got tired of it and told people to chill out. MZ and Trip did it again and were thus banned and PCR'd.

They were flaming myself, Rasbelin and Solver. I went to school, and Ras and Solver went to bed before Ming said chill

Didn't Boris get a PCR during that same incident too?
IIRC at first Trip & Boris got a 10% PCR, then Boris sent a PM too Ming and that resulted ( probably not only that though ) into Boris getting a 0% PCR and Trip getting a 20% one.

I would hardly call myself a Civ II or an OT poster. Nor would I call Solver or Ras (at least currently) a Civ II or OT poster.

If I want OT I got to MZO, although that OT discussion is very liberal, its generally more intelligent than OT here
