Should thread starters be allowed to request their threads be locked?
This way the thread stays open if it is interesting, but the starter doesn't like what it contains. You don't own your threads.........by starting them you give them to the community.
I'm with ming. Too much chance for abuse.
While we may not always respond fast enough, I think the potential for abuse outweighs any minor delays on our part.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

Thread creators should have some control over their own thread.
Otherwise, why start threads?

I voted no. Sometimes a threadstarter may not like where the thread is going and decide to close it. That doesn't mean the content isn't worthwhile to others, just not to the TS. Why start a new thread from scratch just because another closed?

I you make a mistake, you can already edit it in the first few minutes... after that... SB is right... the abuse potential is way to high.
you have no faith in me at all ming, do you?

You can choose any post to start with and all posts from that one onwards can be split and made into a new thread. I haven't used this but noticed it when I merged two threads posted for the same reason, where each thread had discussion that was not present in the other.
If this was used, then the thread starter could have their thread closed and a NEW thread with the other interesting topic (assuming it wasn't just spam )could continue under another name.
/me really needs to play a bit more with the mod options, but is sometimes a little fearful.....
Oh, you could have some marvelous fun if you could edit the post titles yourself. Just imagine...this could one day become the "Is Dissident your God?" poll without our even noticing. Which is why I'd say no too, though it's not like this is a democracy anyway.
(Yeah, I'm just posting to get one PC closer to a good avatar. So sue me.)
Yes they should be able to request. But I don't think they should be able to close a thread automatically by press a button. Some people may close a thread and a minute later want it to open again. Too much trouble on the mod's side.
Be good, and if at first you don't succeed, perhaps failure will be back in fashion soon. -- teh Spamski
I voted no. The posters here aren't responsible enough to make such a decision.
