Hmm - have played around with the sim, and can't get more than 11 bases this one turn (and can't get Polymers and the HGP!!)

But one interesting fact that I didn't know .... Ogres come with an innate semi-amphibous capability!! (so can be used as the first entry from a ship into an emptied base, thus leaving the rovers for onward rushes after the ship has docked)

Another interesting thing - the cost to m/c Choke goes up if we first capture Vander, so the trick is to get our hands on Choke first

For me, the best sequence was:
    • Mind control Choke
    • Fly an F-8 from Craterwest to take out Vander's interceptor
    • Sail the Laconian trannies to Vander Bay, and attack with the 2 Chaos rovers, emptying the base of defenders
    • Land with an Ogre
    • Dock the ships
    • Use Craterwest's B-8's to empty adjacent (to vander) bases of defenders, and use Choke's 3 choppers to cleear routes for the land units, and take adjacent bases (using the Elite units' greater movement for the furthermost bases)
    • Sail the SATF south of ZZT to Hindenberg Bay
    • Attack and empty bases with B-8's from Fort Liberty (taking care to use the Elite's longer range for the furthest target)
    • Land amphi-units and capture bases
    • Use FL's B-8's to empty westcoast bases
    • Sail the NATF into Gagarin
    • Send drop troops into the 3 emptied westcoast bases
(of course, next turn, as we are running POWER, we should have more elite units than I gave us in the sim)

EDIT: Got both the SP's on a second attempt - key is (for Vander) to leave the Elite units till last, and use 2 Choke choppers, plus Interceptors from Craterwest, to clear out the clutter of crawlers and formers, then there's a clear path for the elite units to move in

Also, I think we should give the Laconian task force's Impact infantryman an amphi capability - he then can take out the former and probe unit, leaving a Chos rover with its full mp's

(ie, use an interceptor to clear out the Morgan interceptor, a Chaos rover to take out the plasma and scout defender, and the upgraded impact infantryman to take out the former and probe team. Then an Ogre can land, and the ships can sail in

Here's an updated version, with actual crawlers - and road network - filled in.

Formers still somewhat arbitrarily placed (as they don't show up on base screens or maps like crawlers do)

EDIT: Sim II removed as later version posted below

        What a piece of work!!

I tried an invasion now. Managed to capture the SP:s quite handily by clearing them with the noodles from CoT and capturing with drop troops from LATF. Other than that, it's a completely wild slaughterfest. SMAX suddenly crashed when I attempted to bomb a city, so I think we should take care to save quite regularly I think. I think I probably captured something like 10-12 bases anyway.

It's clear that if the Morgans don't upgrade their forces, or do something drastic, this is going to be a piece of cake.

        Once again, awesome simulation!

Then you will probably be interested to know that all combat land units can do this

There are two other 4-1:s in duty, we would need to upgrade (or disband) those as well...

Looks like a walk in the park to me. If I was more paranoid, I would almost think it is a trap. Naaah.

By the way, how do we look compared to the Gaians?
            Seriously. Kung freaking fu.

              That's a problem - we just don't know.

It was an eye-opener putting their pops to their bases - they really have grown (and have Fusion power, too)

As soon as we have subjugated/eliminated Morgan, we need to turn our eyes southwards, before they get too unreachable

Naw - we just have 1 in service - it's just sloppiness (laziness? ran out of time?) on my part in the sim

These are the original Spartan Kels, and we upgraded 2 to missile status for the PTS invasion some time ago (or was it for Operation PW?)

Anyway, there's just 1 and it costs 30 credits to upgrade, and if we have the credits, I'd suggest we do just that, as it saves an amphirover its complete mp's for deployment to Money or Scorpi

One thing we need to watch with Choke is the minerals deficit when we do mind-control it. We need to rehome units to other captured bases as and when we get them, else we risk disbanding them

And while the choppers are valuable, (for clearing formers and crawlers out of the way) I'd be prepared to waste the 2 Chaos penetrators and the 2 missile tacticals on targets (assuming the noodles are still in Choke when we get the turn) as we don't really need more noodles, but do need to preserve movement points of our rovers and elite land units for occupation - that's assuming as well that we'll lose one or 2 in emptying other bases

And if the sim does bear any relevence to reality, we needn't worry if they do put a 3rd probe team from Red Fungus into Choke this turn - in all my attempts I've managed with just 1 longstrider and the Disco, leaving a complete longstrider still on the IoD

What do we do if we find that they do have a unit or units on the road they'll take?

We can actually use rovers from the SATF if push comes to shove. They can move in to Hindenburg Habitat and wipe out enemies there. It might make the mc more expensive tho.

Yes it bumps up the cost to 1242 credits!

Little bit more realistic version attached (put our pops in place - and defensive units in our bases (so we won't go into drone riots!!)

Also removed old units like the 2 impact infantrymen and that stack of B-4's at Iaci Base

LOL - I didn't know that (you can tell I'm a builder at heart!!)

As soon as Morgan posts the turn, I'll update the sim with units and morale (both ours and theirs) and that way we can plan the perfect, base-capturing maximizing strategy

                          Turn's up

                          - and they don't know we're there!! (made it easier in fact, as they just have 1 probe team in Choke)

and what's the significance of Chaunk's in his turnpost?

have they discovered us but can do nothing? Or do they think that's our invasion force en-route to the Hive?

Hmm - I think that they have spotted the Laconian fleet - look at their build orders for Vander Eudaimonics - LOL, nothing but Elites and Commandoes

And wow - our Hardened Ogres have become Commando with the switch in SE choice - I never knew that could happen either!!

                              Cool!
Yeah they don't seem to be on to us !!!

They've moved two choppers from CoT ... Probably a bad thing for us. One of them is in Vander now (where it is an easy target of course).

Yeah I was wondering about that But how would they have found us? And why haven't they mobilized?
