Great idea, vishniac. It has the right balance of "back off, we're Sparta" and some seemingly self doubts about the Doctrine's ability to deliver what we want - security.

(I hope you didn't mind my three or four minute changes)

I don't mind, since I'm not a native English speaker.

However, as already said, I 'll let someone in charge deliver it into the right forum and Phalanx form, for I'm lacking time and internet knowledge.

I think I'll have to resurrect the Editorial Office. Do we have anything else pending for the next issue?
Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all!

Well, if it passes the interfactional political-correctness committee the article on Debbie would be a candidate

The Gaians didn't mind political correctness when they accused us of murdering Deirdre, so why should we?

It's funny, so we should post it IMHO!

Hmm - but we don't want them so pissed off that they annul the Int Int deal, do we?

(Remember the closing of the Embassy incident - Illuminatus doesn't have much of a sense of humour)

Well, I really don't think they'll be too pissed off. They may use it as an excuse to act it, but I seriously doubt they'll be really upset.

Btw, didn't Illuminatus resign from a bunch of positions in Gaia?

Illuminatus may still be an influence. I think posting the article might be in order at a later date - I fear we may have to resort to a degree of self censorship in that regard. However, if the Gaians decide to place the blame on us, it will be the perfect response. I'd hold this piece of ammo in our clip for now.

Yes that's good thinking Kassiopeia. Eventually we will be at war with the Gaians, and that will be a better time to provoke them. I withdraw my submission for this issue.

Just for the record (gotta defend Illuminatus' honour here ), Illuminatus most definitely has a sense of humour! Eg look at many of the CyCon 3D issues which where his work.

Hi guys! I needed some variation from work tonight, so I tried to reverse-engineer the SMAC combat system. I don't think I did a great job, but I dare say it is much more reliable than the in-game odds presented. Have a go at it here:

It just simulates a number of battles between two units of given configurations (strength and power). If you find any battles which it completely misrepresents please let me know and I'll see if I can improve on my research

Just for reference, it predicts a missiled GT with 30% damage will beat the morgan foil 98.5% of the time, an impact one about 92.5% and un-upgraded laser version it claims should win 58% of the time.

It says for me "Loading Java Applet Failed..." Anything I can do against that? (Problem probably lies with me - I think it might be the same reason I can't open the Spartan website chatroom)

Well you do need the Java Runtime Environment, do you know if you have that installed?

I realized that I compiled using the new 1.5 java version, which was unnecessary, so I recompiled it with the old 1.4, which should be more compatible. So assuming you have some version of JRE, try it again now (though you may need to clear your java plugin cache somehow).

Eh no, I know little about computers. How can I find this out?
