To sum up one thing that may be lost - we can ask for a extension of 24 hours to decide what to research and wait Angel response, or choose Flex to have a week or two to decide what will be our actual tech (after receiving Flex we can easily use accumulated RP for other techs).

Idea of having exension and Flex is good!
Let us do so!-- What history has taught us is that people do not learn from history.
-- Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning.

I would rather not ask for an extension, but it is an option. If we go for Doc: Flex, we will have a different set of choices next time, and may not be able to choose EcoEng anymore.
Then we go for Eco Eng!
We can't afford losing that chance!-- What history has taught us is that people do not learn from history.

Minute Mirage's Table for prediciting tech choices has not yet made a wrong estimation - this is what it says after getting Flex:
Doctrine: Initiative
Ethical Calculus
Ecological Engineering
Progenitor Psych
Secrets of the Human Brain
Nonlinear Mathematics
However if we gain Ethical Calculus as well by that time options are:
Doctrine: Initiative
Intellectual Integrity
Progenitor Psych
Polymorphic Software
Secrets of the Human Brain
High Energy Chemistry
So it may be a wrong idea if we gain both Eth: Cal and Flex and then decide to go EcoEng.SMAC/X FAQ | Chiron Archives

Also, if we decide for Eco, we would need to receive first flex and then EthCal (one year later) to avoid this trap.SMAC/X FAQ | Chiron Archives

Believe me - we will trade for IntInt very soon and offset the benefits of CDF by either NA or LV!-- What history has taught us is that people do not learn from history.

Well, we don't have agreement on trades yet. You could put Mobility on the bargain table with Angels without preaccepting it (to prevent breaking the embargo), but nothing else.SMAC/X FAQ | Chiron Archives
