  • Wrong. The Battle of Anteitam in the Civil War took more American lives than any battle in American history. More American lives were lost in individual battles in the Civil War than in any time in American history.

But then it really shouldn't take a body count to cause a government to build a monument. That would be disrespectful to the dead.

    • In regards to my post regarding Chinese expansionism, I'm just going with what makes sense to me. I mean, eventually nukes might be rendered obsolete, and then full-scale ground war and such would be possible again without having to worry about somebody blowing your cities all to hell.
I mean, pretty much every kind of weapon we - and by "we" I mean humanity in general - have ever created has become completely obsolete and outdated at one time or another. In certain fields, new discoveries are made weekly, and some even faster.
In our fast-paced world, one of these days someone is going to find something that could utterly replace nuclear weapons. Either it would be a weapon designed to destroy nukes or render them harmless (think the Nanite Defuser in CTP and CTP2) or something that could do the job without all the radioactive fallout. The former, I believe, is more likely.
We've made better and better means to counteract bio-weapons and gas weapons. It makes sense to me that we could someday outdate nukes.
Keep in mind that this is just my opinion. And I hope dearly that someday we won't have to worry about nuclear weapons, but then I realize that we're bound to find something much worse.

      • There are EMP (electromagnetic pulse) weapons in the works. They are non-lethal, but have the ability to disable or severely damage every machine with electronic and computer components.

        • Exactly. Just like a nuke, but minus all that death and destruction. So instead of Hiroshima you get the eighteenth century.

              • Samiel, I'm not trying to be insulting, but could you please put what you type through a translator. I'll do the same, because I think we have a communication problem.

In addition to EMP weapons being tested; there are also planes with lasers, that can shoot down missiles, going into service within the next few years.

                • trevor i can't use the translator! It wants a new register from me.
I think this little communication problem can we handle. Read english isn't hard for me, but selve writing is hard for me, I will still learn.

Write I really so wrong for you?

What is with biologic weapons how Lebra-rocket or pocken-rocket? Like Bin Ladens terror weapons.

                    • There are already missiles that destroy organic matter but not inorganic matter... how much weirder to weapons need to get?

And, hey, maybe "Star Wars" will work someday!

But of course, someone's going to have to FIRE A MISSILE to test it out...

I don't know that much about the laser-planes... will they be tested in "the gulf"? I've heard abotu them from a military wacko friend of mine.

                      • laser weapons have been and are beeing tested by military. with present day computers lasers can actually lock onto a fast moving object (missile, plane) in just a few miliseconds and fire a pulse.
the problem is to create a laser pulse which is strong enough to penetrate the metal and ignite the fuel tank or the explosive in the missile.
presently it's not possible to have a generator that can collect and release that much energy in one blow. the machine would overheat before the light is bright enough to scratch the metal.

another problem: the hole in the steel must be big enough, because a microscopic one wouldn't be enough to let the fuel ignite.

also, when trying to destroy a nuclear or chemical warhead, you don't want the thing to detonate (nuclear) or release (chemical). the chemicals should either be completely disintegrated or the container should land safely.

maybe my information is outdated. i made a presentation about this a few years ago. so if any quantum phyician or army researcher knows anything else...

                        • How about a paranoia-weapon, like that one Mr. Bush has been exposed of? After being attacked with it, you lose all human IQ and randomly attacks (or wants to attack...) everyone you see! Yeah, that's it!

But you shouldn't use it on someone able to build the Manhattan excluding project, which prevents any other player from using (or even possessing) mass-destruction weapons!!
