    hollywood sounds like a good wonder and i will probably add a democracy, communist, and fascist wonder...only thing is the tools are kinda limited right now and i am really hoping that in the patch they give us a little more to work with

    i'm not sure about changing governments with government specific improvements...however right now if you built a movie theater then switched to communism it should replace the theater with classless society so there wouldn't be any worries

    and remember movie theater replace colosseums that have been their for a while, but i will look into it

    i pmed snoopy about making a few graphics for this mod, so maybe he will

    about the university i will playtest it more and see if it upsets the game balance and if it does i will change it back

    ever since changing the citizens the game that was locking up runs fine, so i think i took care of it, and i pmed snoopy

    and about corruption, i cut the cost of the forbidden palace, i added newspaper which reduce corruption and i added reduced corruption to police stations...but yeah its still bad...firaxis really dropped the ball on that one...but your idea of temporarily reducing the price of anti corruption buildings sounds good

    back to playtesting for me

      just to point out, when I only reinstalled the game it froze again (and kept the same .ini file too)

      Therefore I had to do a full uninstall to make the game start with the default values again. (and there was one .dll file that was still used by the system when i tried to uninstall the first time, after closing Civ III trough the task manager)

      Anyway is started another default game and played it last night to 500 AD without any problems. I am glad it was the specialist citizens. Nevertheless I am going to play 1.04 tonight.

      Just one more idea about the late game governments - socialist democracy from ancient's mod. That seems to be one of the most often governemtnts today and could be a bit more socialist - more happy, than democracy in your mod, with a little increased corruption, somewhere between communism and democracy but closer to democracy naturally.

      As for corruption, I liked the idea where courthouse could cut it for 25% instead of 10% . But what i would like to see the most is some kind of telecommunication small wonder that would come in the late game and who creates it, it reduces corruption for 50 % accros the empire and you would need 7 post offices in your empire before that (that is an idea for a new improvement as well and it could add +1 happiness for example and 10% corruption decrease) So at the end everyone could have small corruption (1/3 max after all this is built, with Courthouse at 25%) to reflect todays technological advances and ability to manage well across wast distances. I guess that for these two we would need an extra telecommunication advance that would come in at the end of industrial age (maybe as a dead advance, nobody's prerequisit), well or incorporate this idea with newspapers, and police station, and leave courthouse at 10%, but I feel that a courthouse should have a bit more important reduction it is afterall an institution made for law and order .


      And for culture, since we have many more culture giving improvements the culture victory could be set at 120 000 points intead of 100 000, just to compensate.

          when you say reinstalled the game do u actually mean the entire game or just the civ3mod.bic file? because everytime you change the civ3mod you DON'T need to reinstall the game, you just need to change the civ3mod, the civilopedia, and pediaIcons

          i downloaded your save, and everytime i played it with v1.03 it locked up on 1330, however when i changed the specialist citizens back to their orignial settings it stopped locking

          also i will think about adding a new government but i really hope that the patch gives more options to the editor because if not i think it would be hard to create a government that is different yet balanced enough to fit in

          all you can in the editor is set one of three corruption switches

          *center of empire
          *reduces corruption (building)
          *reduces corruption (small wonder)

          i think the game is hard coded to only allow you to have one center of empire building, and then all building with reduces corruption flag for a small wonder will have the same effect as the forbidden palace...so then you are left with the plain courthouse one size fits all reduces corruption effect, you don't set the percentages

          also you can't set the culture victory number

            How about, for Commie and Fascist govs, a 'Secret Police' small wonder, that decreases corruption across the empire, but causes a goodly amount of unhappiness?

              yes, for the uninstall, i had snoopys mod and no backup, but still it is fairly quick.

              and for the changes... either this is a beta, of Firaxis blew it. Wow, I certainly expected more from the game customization wise. (so did everyone else I guess ). We will see after the patch, they had month and a half to make some changes.

              Secret police sounds good too but it is more like you cannot have any entertainers with no unhappiness penalty, but if some city riots you cannot make it happier with entertainers.

              I don't think this is possible though.

                Do you need any help with the graphics for improvements and such? I haven't had time in over a week to work or play with Civ3 at all, but last week I got started on transferring some imagery from a CTP2 mod I made to Civ3. Here are some screenshots:

                  Hey korn, another question for you: have you noticed that AI civs still rush for democracy? I've read that the AI will try for the 'best' government, even disregarding the favored and disfavored govs for that civ (i.e., Russia favors communism in the files, but still aims for democracy, even though its listed as an unfavored gov.)

                  I've heard that one of the programmers (Soren?) confirmed that civs will go for the 'best' gov (democracy), and my games have confirmed this (in my latest game, I'm the only communist civ, surrounded by 15 democracies.)

                  Have you noticed, given your governmental tweaking, that the AI now dabbles in communism or fascism, or does it still heavily favor democracy? Can communism and fascism be tweaked to make them more desirable by the AI, or would that unbalance things? I would love to see a better distribution of active governments. I don't mind if a majority of civs eventually turn to democracy, but every one?

                  I suppose I can hope that this is one aspect of the game covered by the patch, but I've seen very little discussion of it on these forums. In fact, only 3 threads discuss the AIs love of democracy. I'm just wondering if this is reparable, and if so, how?

                    i had a secret police wonder in the back of my mind but i was waiting on the patch to see if it would make it possible

                    i was going to call it the Gestapo and it would only be buildable in fascism and it would make each military unit quell two people, at the expense of 2 unhappy people in every city

                    (i was toying with the idea that would be a building that would make 8 people happy in one city but cause 1 unhappiness in every city, so the more you built the more unhappy your entire empire would be) but i'm still thinking about that

                    I would love to see a better distribution of active governments. I don't mind if a majority of civs eventually turn to democracy, but every one?
                    this is exactly what i want to see also i haven't done enough play testing to find out yet though

                    also i plan on adding an OPEC wonder in the game, but again i wish i could get some help from firaxis...it would be awsome if you could use the wonder bonuses on a small wonder (like requires either one or two oil resources in city radius but grants +1 trade in every tile and +50% tax income), if not i'll think of something else

                      ajbera i haven't done enough playtesting to determine if the AI uses communism or fascism more but i would like for there to some fascist/communist governments in every game

                      also secret police sounds good i am hoping the patch will give me some new options to play with to implement a few ideas i've had

                        played tonight until 420 AD and no freezes. I did not manage to build the pyramids , next time

                        and to add, once again about giving more HP's to units. I have added that to your mod and played another quick one. The stats were 5 HP conscript, 10 HP regular, 15 HP Veteran and 20 HP elite. Someone else wrote that this does not impact armies as they still have 60 HP (or more) but it just does not appear. Units heal quickly once in the city, since that was one of your early concerns. This addition would make animated fights last longer, I personally enjoy these, but there will be many who don't, and I believe there is option to take animations out, this should hopefully speed up the fights. The effects on combat are great as suspected, and it become increasingly imprtant to have barracks in the cities, it makes armies even more powerful, and combat overall more predictable, but that is something I would like to see.

                        This all makes me think that this addition would suit this mod very well. I will play with HP set this way further, perhaps the only problem might be if the AI cannot recognize the issue and continue building armies without barracs, as well as barbarrians being conscripts by default (maybe this can be changed).

                          hmmm i have been playing for most of the evening, no freezes every was working fine until... i switched to fascism it was my second turn in fascism then the game crashes because it performed an illegal operation and here was the error

                            i found the cause of that, and it was so simple it stupid...i forgot to add the name of the leader for the fascist

                            you can either download v1.04b or you can open up the civ3 editor select the blitz mod civ3mod.bic and add the name for fascist...i went with Chancellor and Fuhrer

                            either way this fixes the problem, and it works with save games

                              i am on 1305AD in the early industrial era and i am getting another illegal opperation, but no freezes
                              i am looking for the cause of the illegal opperation and hope to have it fixed soon, it might have something to do with the Partisan unit, not sure yet

                              anyways i experimented with increased hitpoints and when you double hitpoints the heal rate doubles...so in v1.05 i will increase hitpoints, the thing you have to remember is when you increase hitpoints you have to increase rate of fire by the same multiplier or you upset play balance, i will either increase hitpoints by 2x or by 5x not sure yet

                              also because of the lack of great leaders and the importance of armies in my mod i am going to add in another unit right now i am thinking of calling it the general, and it will be able to build armies, it will cost 160 require no resources, and will either come with feudalism or gunpowder and upgrade to riflemen (therefore making it obsolete with nationalism)

                                ok i found the problem, when you create new units even if you copy them you have to change their .ini so to fix this problem you need to rename Infantry.INI to Partisan.INI if not the game will crash!
