Well, noob or not ... I would venture to say the first 15 turns will probably be the easiest! From where I'm sitting the game will get hard when we get close to the city limit for first unhappiness in Despotism. And on a gigamap, we're not likely to encounter anyone soon

That said, those first few cities probably should be placed pretty carefully... they may be all we can manage for a while. And the tech path will probably look different, without the usual beeline for Monarchy.

Refresh my memory: celebration under Despotism collects resources as Monarchy, right? Happiness techs will be at a premium.

I dunno if I've got the time— haven't even finished my round of No Science.

Yes, celebrating cities basically don't have the -1's on all workers producing >2 of anything. And I would venture trade is going to be huge in the early game (pre democracy) as well (currency is a happiness tech too )

Obiwan18 Go get 'em! We were all n00bs once

STYOM The science goals are slightly different. Lean and mean research to Democracy is probably the best route - avoiding the techs off the Demo path.

SCG Trade will be important throughout the game. The good thing is that Trade is a requirement for Demo.

Yeah beeline for demo, and on the way we'll pick up most of the techs we need early anyway. We can trade for pottery maybe.......otherwise we'll have to step off the path, because HG is going to be even more useful than usual in this game.

Early triremes might also be necessary with this map setting.

Yeah...Pottery and Map Making are important. The game is a scenario so the tech choices are never restricted.

Although not playing, I am wondering wonders you guys are going to target?

                    GL? HG? Mikes?

But that's what happens when a new succession gets posted on the weekend...

...and I was just hoping to get my certificate of completion from the Academy. (sigh)

Looks like a blast. Guess I'll have to live vicariously through your conquest. Enjoy!

Every happy wonder we can get our hands on, I'm thinking. HG for sure - we ought to be able to get that, because we won't be feeling the no monarchy pinch really early on. Mikes if we can get it, of course.

GL... mmm, I don't think so. Our research costs will go through the roof if GL gives us unwanted techs.

MPE would help - find out where to trade, and hopefully pick up a few useful techs on the way to Democracy.

MPE and happy wonders... those are my choices. I'm sure there will be some Lighthouse proponents as well.

                              Order of Play

                              Obiwan18 - 15 Turns
                              La Fayette - 15 Turns
                              SCG - 12 Turns
                              SG[1] - 12 Turns
                              STYOM - 12 Turns
                              SG(2) - 12 Turns
                              Hydey - 12 Turns
                              DrSpike - 12 Turns
                              Straybow - 12 Turns
                              -Jrabbit - 12 Turns

                              There are 10 of us!

After Obiwan18 and La Fayette have started the ball rolling (in the early years you often have little to do) with 15 turns each I suggest the rest of us play 12 during the first round.
