  • Well, I took some music from the OiM mod for Rome: Total War (Barbarian Invasion) and have made them into WAVs. I think I still need to modify them to Civ 2-compatible format, but that shouldn't take much.

Also I did some more graphics. Attached below are a revised Moldavian soldier and his Wallachian counterpart (I adjusted the sash on the Moldavian).

Also, a question I'd like you're imput on: What Wonder should Sobieski's Victory be? When Sobieski wins the Battle of Vienna (by destroying the Turkish camp next to the city) the wonder will either be built in your #1 city, or the tech making the Victory "obsolete" will be taken. But just will that Wonder be?
    • The Eiffel Tower seems the most historically accurate, as the Battle of Vienna did increase Poland's international reputation somewhat (hey, they saved Central Europe from the Turkish hordes!) However, it's not that effective a Wonder, and the player needs a good incentive to relieve the Imperials at Vienna...
    • Adam Smith's wonder. The quasi-plausible explanation being that the Poles found a lot of loot at the Vienna camp, and this stuff helps pay for the lower stuff. But Smith only pays for improvements with a payment of 1, making it not that valuable...

So, any suggestions as to what kind of Wonder Sobieski's victory should be?

      • I kind of like the idea of having the United Nations be it. But I'm not sure it's possible to justify Sobieski's victory over the Turks making Europe hold him quite that much awe.

I like Adam Smith's in the default game, so unless you have very few things costing 1 gold per turn, it is well worth it, in my opinion.

Hanging Gardens, if not already used, would be good.

          • Installed the "Fire and Sword" mod for Rome:TW to see if I could add some Tartar "bases" for raids into the Ukraine. Unfortunately, I can't read Russian. Could anyone translate these city names for me?

              1, Аккерман =Akkerman

              2, Очаков = Ochakov

3, I think this is Kherson but the Russian for that is Херсон. Will dig a little deeper!

4, Перекоп = Perekop or Or Qapı in Crimean Tatar

5, Бахчисарай = Bakhchisaray or Bağçasaray in Crimean Tatar

              • Picture 2 is a lot more difficult. I would guess that the top city is Azov but the translation does not match (Азо́&#1074). Rostov does not seem right either (Росто́&#1074).

I have had no luck at all with the middle city. I would hazard a guess that the southern city is Slavyansk-na Kubani but I cannot confirm this yet.

Run out of time now but I will have another go later as long as some kind Russian speaker does not beat me to it

                • Been working on the scenario a bit. Added the western Tartar bases, but wondering if they count as part of the Ukraine. (One of the goals in the scenario is to reclaim the entirety of the Ukraine - ergo more cities in the Ukraine means more flags to fulfill that goal, which might turn out to be a problem. I dunno.)

Curt - are you still willing to help me with that "tech" tree?

Also, below are some units. I've revised the Hetman and (Hetman) Sobieski units (Thank God and Curt for that general's cape in Bitterfrost 4 ), as well as making a Cossack infantryman (you'll find them in the Ukraine under Russian control, and you'll recieve some of your own if you manage to become the Commonwealth of Three Nations. But they won't be there just for show. They will be quite good defensively...)

                  • Rather than just wonder "Hmmmm, what exactly was Sobieski's plan when he schemed of taking over East Prussia?," I actually worked on the scenario today.

I wrote some texts for such events as taking over the various Ukrainian cities (as of right now, you are considered to have taken the Ukraine if you hold Kiev, Sietch and Czernigov). Since cities can wind up destroyed after fierce back-and-forth fighting (especially since some of the aforementioned cities have low sizes), I tried to use CityDestroyed events to ensure that you could claim the Ukraine even if Chernigov and Sietch were wiped out of existence (you still had to hold onto Kiev, though.) But those didn't seem to work (has anyone had any luck with that kind of event?) I know I had a similar problem with Zhitomer, so earlier I added an event where city walls would be built in the Tartars' "#1 city" (which, as all the Tartar cities are below Zhitomer's population, is Zhitomer) once the Tartars capture this, ergo ensuring that the people of said city won't be killed in my attempt to retake it. (The city had walls before it was taken, but apparently the Tartars demolished it, and I don't know how to keep it there.)

Also, would anyone know what the heck Franconian military colors are? Maybe Swabian troops might be more appropriate, as Swabia is larger and more populous than Franconia, but I could be wrong. What websearching I can do on this has revealed basically nothing. Maybe a duke or so, but I can't find him. Meh, it's a minor issue.

And here are the western cities of the Crimean Khan:

                    • This post was meant for yesterday, since said day was the anniversary of the Battle of Vienna, but I didn't have the time.

I made a good amount of progress, adding the "Vienna victory" event texts as well as the "Sobieski is injured/killed" events. Having previously downloaded the music to the "Fire and Sword" mod for Rome:Total War (its Barbarian Invasion expansion, to be more precise), I found a good "triumph" tunes as well as some others - those others seem to be lost, but I'll find them again. I also know of a certain little musical note from Medieval II that I might use, but I'm not sure about the legal and moral ramifications of using it. :/

I also did the "first" text for taking Konigsburg. What do I mean. Well, there seem to be three "reigns" in Poland during the scenario's timeframe: 1)John Casimir's reign as king, 2)the reign of Michael Wisniowiecki, and 3)Sobieski's own turn with the crown. I mention these because what Sobieski would have done, and how people would have reaction, if he took Konigsburg mould differ, I think, on the situation at the time (such as who sits on the throne.) If Konigsburg is taken while Casimir reigns, Sobieski declares himself Duke of Prussia and "submits" the Duchy back to Polish vassalage, and Casimir accepts. If he took in during Wisniowiecki's reign, however, things would be different, as Sobieski is to have said to have conspired against said monarch while Michael reigned. (Not sure how you I could portray John conspiring in Civ 2, though I know it wouldn't be required to go against him, at the very least, you'd have an option.) When Sobieski was king, I know he had a plan to take over E. Prussia, but I'm not sure of the details, ergo I can't write that section now.

                      Anyway, that's all for now.

And here's something I've been hoping to show since the 12th but was too lazy to - some new variations of the King Sobieski unit:

I've been playestesting the "mobilize army" events (the computer civs get tech # 98, and thus free reinforcements), and for some reason, the Turk armies won't appear. The Swede, Imperial and Brandenburg armies do, but the Turk units don't seem to appear! Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
