Call To Power 2 Cradle 3+ mod in progress: https://apolyton.net/forum/other-games/call-to-power-2/ctp2-creation/9437883-making-cradle-3-fully-compatible-with-the-apolyton-edition
It is good to see you so active on the Civ2 boards again! I trust all is going well with you and I am happy to hear you are playing Civ2 again. You can count me in to at least try to play a round or two along the way. I will likely be a very inconsistant at best, but I will definitely try and give it a go.
StuporMan
Man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much - the wheel, New York, wars and so on - whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man - for precisely the same reasons.
I may play later, after the game developes, and if the pace bogs down; but for now, I will play the role of dungeon master. I will be very interested in seeing how you fellows play this map. Should be great fun for all.
So, FreeForAll format. Anyone but the last player can 'call the ball' and post the new turnset w/in 48 hrs. The game will require classic v2.42 (sorry Grigor) and the objective is to Land on AC as soon as possible. The first post has the Ruleset if anyone needs to refer back from time to time. But there aren't many hard rules so that shouldn't be a problem.
Elephant suggested a 'no-rules' games so, if he wants, he should begin.

In the unlikely event that retirement will leave me any free time
Congrats on your retirement, Stu... more time to spend Civving! (despite what your loved ones may tell you)
In spite of what my name might indicate, I'm still a few years away from the promised land of retirement But on the plus side, I've built up a helluva pension
"I'm a guy - I take everything seriously except other people's emotions"
"Never play cards with any man named 'Doc'. Never eat at any place called 'Mom's'. And never, ever...sleep with anyone whose troubles are worse than your own." - Nelson Algren
"A single death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic." - Joseph Stalin (attr.)
I am completely daft. I totally missed the anouncement of Stu's retirement. Congrats!

I have the game and will have a go at ?20? turns - should Ele turn up soon I will naturally cede the honour of first foot to him ...

as long as we put our best foot forward, we should be fine...

Good luck with your retirement, Stu. In my experience, people will find plenty of things for you to do but there's no rule that says you have to do them.
And what a brave decision - a "non-lander" taking the crucial first 20 moves. Any mistakes in this period are vitually impossible to correct.
Bloody Monk's EL Succession - wish I knew what EL stands for
Open game - we are Persians and can see a fine Whale and a hut! Invoke HutFinder - the Whale is an isolated special - two three special spots beckon to the South. We seem to be on a complex river system - which makes the hut reachable immediately and will speed moving to the the sweet spots.
Seem to remember some EL cant about making the first city a feeder and the second the SSC, but RARs like to have BIG capitals - so that's one rule that we will disregard from move one.
The thread suggests that each civ is on an island - but I despise black clicking so am unable to determine whether this is the case,
Formulate a pseudo-plan: run for hut hoping for a Horse and scout the sweet spots - unless something untoward shows up aim at setting cities 1 & 2 on the three special sweeties and pick up the Whale for city 3.
OK - enough theorising - let's suck it and see ...
4000 - Tip hut, Horse (don't you just love it when a plan comes together) Horseman verifies that hut linked special is Coal (boo) and that the SW sweet spot is grassland (Hoorah) and on the coast (Hoorah) (Island theory looks to be confirmed). Will try and tip hut with last 2/3 of a movement point ... Yes! a second Horse - lets get a look at the SE sweety - Damn - it's at sea - thought things were going just too well
3950 - Horses discover a rivered Buffalo and a currently hidden special, Settlers move towards founding positions.
3900 - Persepolis founded on Fish, Coal and as yet unknown special, Horses report that the island seems fairly small.
3850 - Ceremonial Burial selected, Pasargadae founded sharing the Fish & Coal and with a hidden special. Scouts make slow progress through unfavourable terrain.
3800 - Scouts still struggling
3750 - Northern Scout spies, but cannot reach the ?North Pole?, Southern Scout homes in on a hidden and a Hut.
3700 - Ceremonial Burial -> Alphabet; North East Persia now delineated, Northern Scout moves towards the West. Southern Scout tips Hut: 50g.
3650 - Warriors in Persepolis & Pasargadae, Persepolis goes for 2nd Warrior, Pasargadae for Settler. Persepolis has second Fish (Rats!). Scouts reveal little.
3600 - Aaargh, we share the Holy Persian Island with the despised Zulu, Zimbabwe discovered, *Must Exterminate - Must Exterminate* - Put on our best false smile, "Yes we welcome Peace with the Noble Zulu, but my friend where is my Tribute?" - Bronze Working *Damn! that means a Phalanx in Zimbabwe - Must Exterminate - Later* We are Supreme & Spotless.
Aside: As I recall in the only other ELSG I played previous to this one I was seriously castigated for eliminating the Americans at approximately this stage of the game - some dreary cant about potential trading partners or some such - OK, even a RAR can learn, but that doesn't mean I like having bloody foreigners on my patch - *Must Exterminate*
3550 - not much
3500 - Hut sighted
3450 - Hut yields a Chariot (Persepolis), 8 shields towards a Warrior in Persepolis converted to 4 Temple shields.
3400 - not much
3350 - Purchase white good
3300 - Temple in Persepolis, start Colossus. Alphabet -> Code of Laws. Not much more.
3250 - not much
3200 - There is a reasonable chunk of real estate directly South of us - it would be expedient to prevent the Zulu from encroaching here. Speaking of the Accursed Trespassers they should be about ripe for more tribute. However, chances are it will be a tech that would slow the rush to Monarchy.
Reluctantly forebear - *Must Exterminate*.
Note to my successor - "Don't forget to regularly squeeze the Accursed Trespassers!"
3150 - not much
3100 - Southern Scout ambushed by Barbarians skulking in a forest, brilliant leadership by the Scout Captain defeated three enemy units and only the lack of generosity of the Gods prevented the unit from becoming Veteran (Boo).
3050 - not a lot more. Our scouts seem to have more or less delineated our Holy Island of Persia.
Our first Settler emerges on the turn and several attractive sites beckon. Under the guise of building a stupid statue our artisans are constructing the foundations for a Wonderful Floral Extravaganza which will keep the masses content whilst our mighty legions ... build space ships!
Science is not doing as well as it might - the Chariot would have been much more useful in the form of a Nomad or even a Tribe - but that's a small world for you *Must Exterminate*
