  • Alright Chris, I'm going to post a remake of the old map I posted a few weeks ago. This one has a moved turtle lagoon with the steam vent trigger in the middle of the lagoon. You will also see many ocean squares set in straight lines. I hope for those to be rail ways that allow for easy travel around the island.

I hate to ruin a good story but I want to give this project a boost and some direction, one to give you some satisfaction, and two to lay down something concrete.

The backstory is that after Captain Haggerty landed they found immense reserves of diamonds on the island, Kimberly pipes to be exact. The crew of the St. Delecroix managed to make it off the island alive after making a makeshift catamaran out of wreckage and logs from the island. The story makes it back to one of the richest men in the world, Cecil Rhodes, famed monopolist of the South African diamond mines. He leads a team of engineers to the island to harvest its riches, but soon his expedition mysteriously disappears after many months constructing infrastructure on the island. From then on the world's elite make a dash to pick up where Cecil Rhodes left off, adamant that, fully prepared, they can make progress where Rhodes did not.

    • I'm looking at the map now Harry and I'm liking how it looks. I hope you can get the railroad graphics to work, they'd really help the project out. The scale of the island looks good too, not to big but not to crowded for the European/American explorers to get lost in, and more than enough room for traps and treasures. I love the incusion of Mr. Rhodes into the mix, adding a legend like himself gives allot of weight to the story.

As for the native unit your right, though I could do without the needless nitpicking I shouldn't let it bother me. Here's the Native "Villager" along with the Tribal King with the upturned sword.

      • Oh don't worry, in straight sections the railroad will work perfectly. If you like the map then I think we can begin to work out the terrain now.

        Grassland - Normal
Plains - Low food, high shields with mining
Desert - Sandy placement for "insect fauning area"
Tundra - Field placement for "liquor distilling"
Glacier - High yield city irrigation bonus terrain
        Jungle - ?
Swamp - Near identical to the glacier graphically, normal like grassland

I'm going to expand some of the areas for playability too.

            • Sorry for not getting back sooner on these units Harry, I've been busy this last week in a sort of "world flipped on its head" sort of way. I'll get to work on the Captain Highliner and Mr. Howell unit ASAP .

                • Say Harry, to which civ is the haggard looking millionaire unit meant to belong? Where you thinking he should have an adventurer look to him or some sort of rich aristocratic look instead?

Also on another note, does anyone know what a Reichswehr officer's uniform looked like in the 1920's? I can't help shake the feeling that the German officer unit I posted isn't in the correct uniform.

You know, I was thinking a vested tux actually, like a business suit. Since he would have already set up shop and would have been overseeing things I bet he would be wearing a gentlemen's suit. His allegiance will be to only himself. I can see him being a unit that will appear through events.

I have two pictures at hand, but I do not know, if these will help.

                      • Muchos Gracias Dr Kellogg!! Those were just what I was looking for. I was right in thinking that German officer was in an outdated uniform for 1921, I'll release the new officer uniform when I finish up with the millionaire and ships captain Harry .

                          • Well after a bit of a delay I have a once again improved German officer, this time in the apropriate uniform of the era, and a hardy and well seasoned ships captain, both ready for adventure on Harry's "Island of Mystery" .

I wonder just how much of a fortune in diamonds is waiting on this island. Enough perhaps for Germany, should she win, to finance the economic recovery of the broken nation?

And the hardy sea dog unit reminds me of Captain Birdseye!
