Well I'm still not settled on a map right now. I have an idea of what I want to do, but I need to sit down and hand draw it. My skills with freehand drawing by mouse are lacking. What's important is that I have an idea of what areas of the map I want to create. The only problem will be aligning these areas on the map so as to create a strategic and fun game. Since boundaries will be defined by mountain units we can do whatever we want with the terrain to bend it to our wishes.
Now, as far as the story goes...
Cpt. Haggerty's Log: Dec 21, 1921
Due East of Madagascar... there is an island far secluded from the modern world, or even the ancient world. Far from any shipping lane, deep within the confines of the Indian Ocean, an island sits nestled between the confines of the warm ocean currents and the cold chill of the Antarctic continent. An island sits out in the endless waves of the ocean, covered in eternal mists, waiting for someone or something to find it once again...
That's the way the ancient mariner's tale goes, at least to the few who have heard it. To those who tell of the tale the island might as well be a fanciful myth, an amalgation of countless day dreams and nightmares from the minds of bored sailors. The truth of the story is that it is no myth, no mere tall tale. The island is real.
The day that the myth of the island became something more than mere fiction my crew and I were sailing on our vessel, the St. Delecroix, due for Singapore harbor. We were taking a short route, beyond the shipping lanes, so as to save time and fuel. We were a mere cargo vessel, carrying assorted goods to sell in the far eatern ports of the Oriental coast. It was a a voyage like any other, that is, until the fog rolled in.
Heavy fog is not uncommon in these waters. In this part of the world the warm seas of the Indian coast wash down and eventually come in contact with the cold air of the south. What was uncommon about this fog was that it came on us unexpectedly, without warning. The lookout had declared clear skies not moments before a fog like no other, thick as smoke, rolled over us.
Within moments the sea became turbulent, as if we were sailing down some inland river. The sound of the waves became closer, as if we had suddenly been boxed in by some unknown force. Then we saw the cliffs. I called for my first mate to swing the ship to starboard to avoid the swiftly encroaching rocks, but it was to late. Our ship smashed into the solid wall of the cliff face and I could hear the bulkheads of the subsection give way under the pressure. The ship began taking on water at a tremendous rate and I ordered all hands to the boats. Few made it, as the water slammed our ship repeatedly against the solid rock wall.
Those who made it to the life boats had in store for them a fate even worse than drowing in that turbulent water. Myself, and the few who made it ashore had reached a place that few had visited and made it out alive. We had landed on the mysterious island, the island which was no longer a mere sailor's tale.Last edited by Harry Tuttle; January 19, 2006, 22:23.

I love the sound of it Harry by that poor sailor's account of things. Lets hope he and his crew can pull through in the end and survive whatever hell awaits them on your island of mystery. I wonder if the survivor's tales of the ill fated St. Delecroix is what will draw the British, Germans and Americans to the island as well?
In the mean time I have a couple of new units the sailors and adventurers will encounter on the island. The first is an island native maiden, possibly to fill the role of a settler unit. The second is the native king unit with his upturned sword, more fitting for a king leading his tribe into battle .

Very nice graphics Chris. The natives are very well detailed.

The native "maiden" has a baby?

Hey, nothing wrong with the units. They're great. It's the "maiden" designation I was quibbling about. Put them back!
