I installed it, promptly lowered all the graphics to minimum (I do it to all games... I even re-installed civ2 this morning and turned heralds OFF) and played for a full half hour.
It seems good, but plays too slow on my machine... I've still to find out how to get rid of multiunits and bring back health bars though...
They say that the editor is a much greater resource hog than the game itself, so I'm not very eager to bring it up...Indifference is Bliss

Well, I'm PO'ed that I'm gonna have to get some kind of upgrade if my computer is going to run Civ4.
That it's worthy of considering upgrading I mean ...
T'isn't out here for another few days yet but I've heard enough positive things about it to warrant my close attention when it does. Even yin seems to like this one.

Yeah, my video card is inadequate. I have to play it on my son's computer. Ahh, sweet revenge!
It strikes me as well done, but over complicated. For example, an entrenched unit gains 5% defensive bonus per turn until it reaches 25%. Or, promoting a warrior unit built with a barracks allows you to specialize it as to forest fighting unit, city attack or general combat unit. It's too early to tell, but I suspect we'll be bogged down in detail.
I haven't got around to investigating modding at all yet, but again....well, if you though making a Test of Time scenario was too time consuming....

The warrior specialisation feature may have use in scenarios given that you can differentiate visually. Phalangites being useless in forests versus peltasts springs to mind and vice verca on plains for example. The big question for me is the events language; how does CivIV compare to civ2?

Between cIV and RTW, I may actually have to shake down Santa for a better gfx card.Umm, that is after I check whether my main chip is sufficient for these games.
My brother tells me it's not that hard to get into though.
I won't be trying to create any mods anytime soon as I've discovered that studying latin at the university is a rather time consuming activity
One that is allready severely hampered by just my casual gaming of civ 4 allready (yes I'm definatly experiencing a one more turn syndrome so far).
I like the way civ 4 'feels', definatly feels a lot more polished than civ 3 ever did. I also tend to like many of the new features (not to mention the civ 1ish intro sequenceI just wish there was a version of it without Nimoys voice that I could put unto my MP3 player...)

Any feedback on whether the AI does a better job than in earlier versions of Civ? It's the AI's shortcomings that have been causing designers major headaches?Excerpts from the Manual of the Civilization Fanatic :
Money can buy happiness, just raise the luxury rate to 50%.
Money is not the root of all evil, it is the root of great empires.

Seems to be doing a decent job so far, but really I need to get better at the game myself before I can really tell
My rather small experience of warfare so far indicates that it does attack with quite a lot of units at once (so much so that I was taken by suprise and defeated twice in my first games).
And yes when I defend my cities well it tends to go pillaging the countryside instead. No Fighting here, this is the war room!
