    Really...I posted this on the 6th in the non-spoiler thread (and as of now it is still the last post there.)

    Not many takers for an Early Landing so I have dipped a toe in the water. Hopefully I can finish before the deadline.
    If, somehow that was not sufficient declaration, then, I do so now DECLARE.

    Should be able to finish by the 1st deadline if my health holds. It is that post launch stage in my game where the AI often gets frisky. Arrival is scheduled for 1075.

        1075: Superb.

        I can't believe the frisky AI can really bother you. They had 700 years more to develop in my game and the Spanish actually became Supreme but they couldn't manage anything more than a few love bites.

        Or are you hoping to try a blitz conquest? It would be very cool to launch a slow ship and then get as close as possible to conquest while it flies.

        • Thanks fellows, an no, offa, I am ready for this to be over.

          I went for a white goods push based on CfC, keeping the AI Receptive or better to lessen their "friskiness." And Stealth Fighters for when they do intrude.

          • I finished too! - but in 1220AD - long after some adventurous cloistered types will have arrived on AC...

            However, I have a dickens of a time making a sumbission. I successfully uploaded, but get an Invalid URL problem. I also have no idea what to enter in the Score field. The 'Bonus Score"??

            • It's not automatic, as when doing this with a post. You must insert the url of the upload address:

              After uploading, select and copy the url displayed, then paste this into the slot for the saved game before submitting.

              "Score" is the score displayed and assigned to the game when it finishes.

              • OK, I was successful. On a Mac, this is a completely annoying exercise - the web browser only shows the game location in the scroll bar at the bottom, with no way to select or copy it other than writing it down by hand and manually re-entering it on the submission screen.

                There must be a better way.

                • argh!

                  in a future version we'll integrate file uploading in the result submission page.....

                      Can I declare in this forum, or must it be in the original?

                      Due to all the bloodthirsty experts here, and all the denigration of this startup for AC attempts, I started an OCC game. I'm at AD500 right now, pretty much over the "hump" of the early game but not nearly as far along by this time as usual:
                      - ATHENS at (5,19) with Whale, Silk and Fish;
                      - at size 6 to stay small enough to get lots of alliance gifts (3 allies, and one respawn that I can demand tribute from);
                      - a Celebrating Monarchy due to need for shields and a few defenders against the Mongols;
                      - got Marco Polo, Colossus, and Copernicus along with Library and University;
                      - all AIs at peace or allied, although Mongols are only Neutral after the last bloody nose;
                      - 3 TRs with Kashgar, which has the Whale just east of the isthmus;
                      - a "critical path" road to Kashgar 1/3 done, but alliance with Mongols needs more tech-gifting;
                      - Medicine and Shakespeare in the next 100 years, could WL to 12 then but probably stay small for alliance gifts.

                      I'm thinking about KingRich for shields in the mid-game, delaying Indust a bit like an island game. Getting and keeping an alliance with the Mongols will be top priority of the mid-game, which looks doable but tedious at this point. Probably a landing in the 1900s if I can stick it out.

                      How's that, MarkG? Want an interim save?

                        • Ok, I'll declare as well.

                          I'm currently trying for the Fool's award ( ) so named for anyone who makes the most Bonehead errors in a game.

                          1st was starting this a few days ago -- and figuring the rush was willing to accept a few mistakes along the way...

                          I'm well past 1700 AD and have nothing exciting to show for it.

                          Major bonehead award goes for my force growing the SSC (opted for Colossus over the HG when givien the choice) from size 5 to size 19 over many year by using two food camels per every odd size...only at size 19 did I recall to build a granary!

                          The real question is whether my entry will be even worse the MarkG's first one.
                          Those with lower expectations face fewer disappointments

                            I was sure you would achieve a brilliant result if you managed to play the whole game.

                            I feel very happy that you managed to play the whole game

                              Now I feel better.

                              But you can still finish ahead of me...

                              • I doubt I'll manage to finish even by the extended date, though I'm trying to.

                                Around 1550, disappointed with how much I've slowed down since what felt like a terrific start. I haven't landed a spaceship since about 2001, so I can't estimate remaining turns, but I'm at electronics and getting a tech every turn or two, and with plenty of cities to build parts when I get there.
