        • Dirty Succession - 10 turns

          1200 - No wonder no-one wanted to pick this mess up! I have never seen so many Elvi! I really have no idea how to play this - 40% luxuries helps out about 5 cities the rest are still wallowing in squalour - which I guess is the Grand Plan! We are Supreme & Atrocious. Move a few fairly aimless units - conceive a partial plan to start overseas trade and be nasty to the Chinese. Hit Enter.

          1220 = build a few roads - 'b' a Settler into Muddville - set many Martial Law Warriors a building.
          1240 = another Settler joins Muddville now 7
          1260 = not much
          1280 = Chinese sneak attack our Explorer - that's not fair - we are the dirty ones! The Chinese Polar Fleet is slowly taking shape. Get Cease fire with Mongols - the better to upset them once we find them.
          1300 = not a lot; CF with Chinese.
          1320 = Engineering->Invention in line with our requirement to race for the Tower. Hut-Nomad;
          1340 = not a lot
          1360 = Steal Banking from Chengdu; Muddville now 'b'ed to 8; Rubbish Tip (as nearest city to capital) 'b'ed to 5; Tula founded;
          1380 = Meet Bab Horse on S Pole - Peace, demand Tribute, War; Beads, WhalePoo-Chengdu, 188g; Silver, DustBunny-Chengdu, 228g; Hut-100g; Buy nasty Bab Horse (NONE); Rush all extant white goods.
          1400 = Ship chain nearly in place, Explorer, dips & Freight en route - I think this game is actually coming together - dispite my initial doubts.

          Enjoy, Stu

          • Good turns, Stu!!

            This is beginning to look "better"; if a desert world ICS CAN look better, that is.

            Grass and trees are scarce. It is so dry, it's a good thing the Hanging Gardens weren't allowed. All those those purty flowers would not stand a chance.

            And I was startled to see the width of the map. I hadn't noticed that before. This should be very interesting. The game will unfold like an ancient scroll, The Scroll of Dirty Doings.

            Good luck to all.

              • Not much dirtyness, a keyboard slip caused me to build an embassy rather than some other more devious action, however there are lots of troops arrayed for our nest dirty player so while i may remain the only player yet to foul our rep, at leas I am contributing to its destruction.

                Kaskgar, Smarkand. and Bokhara are building dips.

                The ship chain is still a bit askew but will be easilly repaired, i was working towards a double lane approach where one moves forward and the other moves back so ther is no recycle time, Or so you could deliver two ships at once. (which is how I skewed it in the first place.
                There is also a settler that was intended to build on the three special spot on the island west of Bird Poo.

                Have fun my dirt successor.

                • P.S. ther are also several caravans parked near mudville for the coming of the awfull tower, there are not enough yet for a single turn build but whith most cities constructing camels there will be.

                    • It seems happiness issues are holding us back quite a bit and I wondered about the validity of this idea. After the tower build a happy wonder in a size 3-4 city that has the least impact on the civ. then starve down the city per the rules but gain the extra happy turns. This could raise each other city by 3-4 citizens makeing xinning possible in most, and not affecting the happiness after the loss of the wonder becouse most of the cities could either be scientists or Elvii.

                      It would waste a perfectly good size four city but allow for several more size 5 cities from size 3 or four.

                      • Since cities are limited to size 8, perhaps more than one city be built around "a three special site"??

                          • I think building a Happy WoW and then keeping it for a while in order to enjoy it is clearly an exploit under these rules and should be banned. However, as we are supposed to be incarnate in this game perhaps doing that which is clearly not allowed is fully in the spirit of our ness

                            • I agree that this underhand kind of dealing with happy wonders would be entirely within the spirit of dirtiness, but I am going to be even more dirty still, and disallow this kind of thing. You can't run an empire without getting your face dirty! What we will have to do is to build tonnes of caravans and deliver them so we can afford cathedrals and colossea in all our unhappy cities. Or switch to fundy!
                              We'll also have to start razing some foreign cities to prevent the problem getting much worse.
