I have no problem with Stu's "recommendations" at all.
Let's see if the rabbit has recovered from the reception awaiting him after his last set of turns in this game.
I'm glad that -J and La Fayette both have a habit of playing their turns quickly, because it means that I might get the chance to undo everybody's good work on Monday evening.
1. Oldnslow
2. Ben Kenobi
3. STYOM
4. SG[1]

Jrabbit is up.
edit: cross post. My, the posts do fly around here when someone's made a misstep.

Jrabbit might need reminding after last round.
(As might I!!)
Besides, where's the RCC of Ben... you guys don't know what I was faced with

Now tell me if you really don't want to hear any more cricket puns.
(Cricket is a sport whose terminology lends itself ideally to word games of all sorts. Also quite entertaining too. )
-Jrabbit, the work-release program at the Institute is far more beneficial for society than just sitting around sewing mailbags.
I followed the advice of those before & switched from Monarchy to the recommended Communism...I also followed the rules & proceded to set up internal trade -- almost had a complete boat chain from west (5 cities) to central (same -- the east only had an outpost, so the invesment returns were a wee bit small for that).
Would the audience have prefered staying in the primitive government? And given the lack of infrastructure & wonders, the economic advantages of fundy vice commy didn't look too persuasive.
I keep thinking that it would be great to set up a sxn game with a mole who will have the job of disrupting our otherwise smooth running game...but it looks like someone beat me to it.
Those with lower expectations face fewer disappointments
Ben was building a lot of Marketplaces and Harbours, which I criticized him for - and rightly, in the cases where he was building Markets in size 2 cities and Harbours in cities working one ocean tile. However, without the Markets, we wouldn't be able to get any decent celebrations going, so the idea was ultimately sound.
I (correctly, I think) realized that celebrations wouldn't have been feasible without Markets generally everywhere. Where I went wrong was returning to Commie instead of going to Demo - I had feared we didn't have enough happiness improvements (Cathedrals, Temples, etc) to avoid the unhappy faces.
The other problem we face is that while internal trade can be profitable - we're getting 200g for demanded goods, despite our puny city sizes - it's hard to deliver. The distances are vast, we don't have Magellan or a navy (only a merchant fleet), and the AI is cruising around in Frigates and Ironclads.
For this reason, OnS, I'm doubting the value of your shipchain, a bit, and didn't build any more Galleons. It would take more than a dozen Galleons to have an end-to-end chain, and it would be easily disrupted by the AI(which does have ships in the area). So I decided that trying to sneak Galleons through open water was a better idea for now - and that mostly worked. The only lost Galleon was one that was very close to Zulu lands, bearing Diplomats.
Kudos to Stu for recognizing the need for Demo and for pulling a fast one on some AIs to get techs diplomatically.

Well, I invested my time in Silly Rules first. But that's now posted, and I turn my attention to the doors of The Institute. If they are open to me, I shall play...
Apolyton's Grim Reaper2008, 2010 & 2011 RIP lest we forget... SG (2) and LaFayette -- Civ2 Succession Games Brothers-in-Arms
Hm. Spent an hour staring at the save last night. We've got some work to do...
Only 3 cities celebrating, and the size-3's won't join in without more infratructure (though maybe with a VERY high Lux level -- need to check). If that's all the celebration we can manage, I may shift the fundy for the cash to build the infracstructure.
Tech theft is another obvious goal, but our (2) known quantities are powerful enemies, far away, with whom we're at war.
I also note that SG [1] left only 18 GP in the treasury. (hey, isn't that the same guy who trashed my palace in Scorched Earth??) but at least we do have a few diplomats and are nearing some camels.
I'll try to get this done an posted before the holiday, but am at the mercy of SWMBO. Wish me luck...
