      • I believe the Git's shotgun is loaded with rock salt. This is robust constructive criticism, not destructive. As it happens, I haven't read the log since I already saw the "can't load" comments and advanced to pg 12 to see how it was resolved (or not).

Will now d/l the 1580 save and go from their.

        • Aw, Stray, you're a spoilsport - exercises with live ammo are reputed to have a very meritorious effect - maybe I'll just use rocks rather than rock-salt heh?

          • Good luck Stray!
Please get me out of this mess I've made. Oh, and don't let the pressure get to you, but WE NEED THE STATUE!

            • Since nothing seems to be happening with this game (or even in the entire forum), I have downloaded the last save again. I may have time to play these turns again, and will try to get everything as it was last time, but obviously can't guarantee anything. If anyone else has already, or wants to play these turns then please do. We can continue with whoever is first to post a save of their turnset.

The (newly-crowned) prince o' york tries splicing the mainbrace, cuts it in half and so ends up rowing all the way from Polyphemus to Troy to take up his position at the head of the nation. Will he get there in time for the democratic elections, or will a rival have already seized the throne? Will audiences of today still be impressed with Harryhausen's claymation? Find out in the next exciting episode of Sailing Sivvers: Catching a crab?

How's this going to work if Straybow's already played some of the turns?

If he hasn't started yet, go ahead... otherwise we're just duplicating the turns.

                • Well I was waiting for some save files to arrive here, but there's nothing so far. If he manages to finish it all then I'll have duplicated a turn, but I don't really care. As long as we can get things moving again.

                  • Here is a replay of the turns I did before. I tried to keep as much as I possibly could the same, but there may be a few differences. I hope this doesn't compromise the integrity of the game.
If Straybow has played the turns then by all means use his save, and I'll edit this post to remove all traces.

1590 – Zulus nearly finish Darwin, Spanish Eiffel. Land spotted to southeast of Polyphemus!

1600 – Intombe builds Darwin. Zulus take Industrialisation & University. They start the Suffrage. Madrid builds the Pointless Tower. Carts abandon everything! Land SE of Poly seems really crap.

1610 – Carts capture Tugela. They too start Suffrage. Our scientists discover the secret of Democracy! To reward them for their efforts, they'll be looking into Mysticism next, but on 70% tax and only 30% science. Don't they know we've got a statue to build? I spot the hut that I got the dragoons out of before, and reload lots of times until I get more dragoons. I hope that this is in the spirit of the game. We could have had a size 3 city, a size 1 city, 100g or some barbs. I change Polyphemus from galleon to chariot. We have too many ships and not enough explorers to go on them.

1620 – Carts & Zulus sign treaty & ally against Mongols.

1630 – Movement, tickling, ship exploration.

1640 – Mongol ship spotted off northeast shore of Zulu continent. Tickling, exploration, slow movement of caravans towards Troy.

1650 – Movement of explorers, caravans. Poly builds chariot, changes to settlers. Having thought about it, I wish I'd built a dip to do our exploring, but it's too late now.

1660 – Zulus become a democracy, get Leadership for peace with Mongols. Institute starves back down to size 2 without harbour. Enough caravans piled into Troy to get Statue.

1670 – Athens builds settlers. Changed to temple. Troy builds The Lady! Chinese go to Shake’s. Troy production changed to caravan.

I've left it here, just as I did before. I have changed production to some more settlers, in the belief that once we switch to a new government form then we can get more cities built, and more trade from them. Just as I did before, I have chickened out of choosing a new government, so the entire turn 1670 is ready for the next player to move and change build orders as he sees fit. Many of the smaller island cities in the homeland are still producing caravans so if the next player wants to try for Mike's or Bach then we may have a chance of that too.
As I said before, I've tried to keep things just as they went last time I played these turns, but suspect that I may have taken a turn longer to build the lady than before.

I had barely started playing my round, and ran into some video card problems. Had more problems getting a new one to work. A whole week without Apolyton!

                        • Ouch!
Best of luck with your turns then!

I'll be off work from Christmas Eve until 5th January so I won't be able to play any turns in that time. Depending upon when I get a laptop then it'll take ages to try and sort out a home net connection so I'm not holding my breath for that, but if we can get enough turjns in between now and then I'd love to play on the weekend before Christmas because my girlfriend is going to see her parents and I'll have the whole weekend to play Civ 2!

                            • Straybow,

Please play within 72 hours or be skipped.

I mean, it's been a week, and we've had no-one to abuse for bad play.
