This is really really really really really strange. Tom has the EU version and didn't appear to have any problems. Sabre has the US version, can connect, but has version issues. And Lump with the EU version can't connect at all. I wouldn't even know what to tell Tech Support.

Try again, I'm using a different ini. I had been using the CivilizationIV.ini in the Civ4 folder rather than the BtS folder. Don't know if there's any difference, but it's worth a shot.

still doesn't work for me. It occurs to me that I don't think Tom has the patch, maybe that's why it works for him. Would mean that the patch is doing the opposite of what it is meant to do of course...

I started a regular Civ4 pitboss game on the default port (2056). If you can connect to that, we'll know it's a BtS issue. If you can't, then it could be your internet connection. Do you have access to any other internet connection you could try?

still the same problem with the vanilla civ. incidentally it does always say 'connected to host' it just never gets any further

well i guess its problem with my net connection. unfortunately no i have no alternative connection, not even a dial-up

strange as i have had no other internet problems, but i have no idea how any of it works anyway

Well, if it connects, I wouldn't think it would be an internet problem. Very very strange. Maybe I'll shoot an email to tech support, see what they say.

lumpkin: does your ISP block some ports? if so, maybe aebbeka could temporarily use one which is surely open (80 or 21 or so). i doubt they have an application layer filter.

and otherwise try short-term deactivating your software firewall?

the error message i had was that "critical game files" were different. now it works.

however, my playing PC just broke down on sunday (while starting a BtS game)... no screen, just 3-4 system beeps on startup. i hope it's not the RAID 0 disk but just some fuse somewhere... otherwise it's gonna take a while

Tried with firewall off, with and without patch, but always without success

I don't know if my ISP blocks some ports

I shut the game down for now and emailed tech support. We'll see what they say.

Sabre, did you look up the beep codes to see what the error is? Might be something simple like the memory needing reseated. --- Your computer has fuses?

Pitboss is back up and patched, keep your fingers crossed! btw, it's Tom's turn. He probably didn't get an email notification because I had the smtp wrong. It's correct now.
