Afternoon off work.
685 to ClausI do not live in London, I live in South London. South London is different, a warm melting pot where everyone can become a bona fide South Londoner by virtue of two things. One: living in South London, and two: having no aspiration to live in the Cotswolds.

0_o that would definitely defeat all of firaxis' attempts to kill ICS... the number of trade routes per city depends on your tech level and civics mostly, +in some instances (great lighthouse/coton/castle) wonders/buildings
You start at 1 trade route per city. Currency gives another 1, the great lighthouse another 2 in any coastal city. Depending on tech and civics, the number will then vary between 2 and 5 over the game

Further points: The choice of trade routes in a city from the possible ones is not in your hands. With domestic trade routes, it doesn't matter, because the best will be chosen locally and each of your cities can appear in any number of your other cities' trade routes.
With international trade routes, it's more complicated: A city can only appear in the trade list of a certain number of cities. So everyone with open borders is competing for good trade routes. As far as i can remember a thread about this in the strategy forum (in last december?) harbors and high population are the prime factors to pull in good trade routes, NOT science/gold multipliers
Note this thread dates back to before the source code was revealed. I haven't read anything about the subject after and am too lazy too figure it out myself
